Tom Dunkel has written about sports, politics, adventure travel, and other topics for a variety of publications, including The New York Times Magazine, Washington Post Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Smithsonian, and The Wall Street Journal. He was a contributing editor at National Geographic Traveler and at George (John Kennedy Jr.'s magazine of politics and culture); also a staff feature writer at The Baltimore Sun. White Knights in the Black Orchestra is his second work of narrative nonfiction. His first book, Color Blind, is the true story of an integrated semipro baseball team that played in Bismarck, North Dakota during the Depression. He lives on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
