V. Kay Perks is an author specializing in fractured fairy tales and fantasy. She has a Post-Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing, which is what she likes to do when she’s not hanging out with her favorite two-year-old. Born and raised in Lancaster, California, she now lives with her husband and kids in Provo, Utah. Her favorite activities include sewing stuffed animals, drawing, reading, and walking to the local library. She always tries to be up on current events at the library and loves getting involved in all their reading programs. One cool fact about me: I grew up as the youngest of eight siblings! With so many older siblings, I got to bond with all of them in lots of different ways. One of my favorite things to do with them was to read books with them! Whether it was my brothers teasing me that harry potter died and i had to wait for 2 other siblings to read the book before I could finally see what actually happens. Or my sister getting me addicted to fractured fairy tales and introducing me to some of my all time favorite books. To me convincing my Dad to buy me the original classic stories the Grimm Brothers and reading them to him whenever I found one exceptionally… Grimm. I loved spending that time with my family, learning about the true stories that I’d heard in movies and thinking about them from different views. It was something that interested all of us-me as a young fairy tale-lover, and them as older, loving, yet slightly annoyed, I’m sure, siblings. As I’ve grown up, I’ve kept that love of the classic, not-so-Disney fairy tale stories, both because of those stories and because of the time I spent with my siblings reading them. I’ve worked on several different stories, based both on the classics and on my own ideas. No matter what I’m writing, it just makes me happy. The thing that makes me happiest is that I’m now able to share these stories with my kids, and I will be able to for a long time.
