About the Author According to my wife, “I am a caring headship and leader to all those that trust in me and value my well-being. I am a reasonable, logical, and supportive individual. I manage those under my watch with consideration and fairness. And I seek to provide for those that are defenseless, lacking or at need. Finally, I am introspective because I look for ways to improve upon the things that can better myself for the good of all.” A specific example of when I am at my best is, “where there seems to be no guidance, I initiate interest in helping individuals find solutions to problems through advising and encouraging activity.” According to my oldest daughter, “I am a team member and like spending leisure time together as a family. She also stated that I am the best person and father because I show interest and care for the daily tasks of educating younger ones. I contribute to a sense of family happiness. And I have a thankful attitude. I love and protect my family members. A specific example of a time when I am at my best, “is during Biblical application of daily activities.” According to my son, I am a diligent worker. Moreover, a specific example of a time when I am at my best is, “when I am prepared for prayer and the theocratic ministry school, that includes reading aloud from the Scriptures, conducting studies, and singing praises.” When I am at my best, I teach life lessons in a humble manner. I stand firm on my set of beliefs and values. I am always at my best during prayer and family time. My top three strengths from the “Better Up” assessment is ‘Coaching’, ‘Influence’ and ‘Motivating’. Interestingly, ‘Participation’ and ‘Open Communication’ out of the assessed leadership strengths are equally evaluated along with ‘Influence’ and ‘Motivating’. Looking at my strengths as a leader, I tend to value the coaching strength above the other four strengths. I currently use these strengths as described below: “I have the ability to provide insight and resources to support the growth and development of others through guiding, correcting and encouraging so they can be their best.” And "I provide opportunities for others to learn.” Further, “I encourage others to set performance and career goals.” Finally, “I ask open-ended questions to stimulate others' thinking" (Eric's Whole Person Strengths Report, 2018). “I have the ability to use persuasion that makes me a respected team member while helping me gather necessary resources for projects.” When I use logic and evidence to persuade others, I effectively communicate how proposed ideas align with outcomes. And I place an appeal to others for values and ideals" (Eric's Whole Person Strengths Report, 2018). “My ability to inspire others about their work helps my team move toward common goals.” "I further express energy for my work to others when I communicate a vision for the future.” And “I share with others the values that drive my behavior and decisions" (Eric's Whole Person Strengths Report, 2018). According to the interviews with my contacts I am a passionate, kind, focused, determined, considerate, resourceful, respectful, understanding and happy leader when I am at my best. Moreover, my strengths are maintained through action and daily routine. For example, I have realistic goals that I follow each day. Further, these goals are consistent with the strengths and qualities that were mentioned earlier; focused, determined, resourceful as well as understanding. I am a leader with a growth mindset that is willing to test all things. I am also an optimistic and respectful leader that is always ready to take the initiative. I am a leader with “golden” ethical practices that are for the best interest of those who are around me. I stand out as a great leader because of my values, knowledge and in all things that I do. I would like to be known as the most self-reflective leader because it is important to understand and examine yourself. And I am comfortable when I am “being myself”, in that I know how to better manage the things that I need when I am myself. The assessment session was rewarding because I was able to cover my strengths, weaknesses, and some of the things that I can do to improve as a leader. The session also helped me to be more confident knowing that I have a coach that is focused on my growth and success. I further concluded that the session was upbuilding and supportive because I benefited from the “Better Up” assessment through five (coaching, influence, motivating, participation and open communication) perceived leadership qualities and styles as previously described.
