My name is Kerbit J. (Jim) Little. I am 75 years old and I live in Lexington, Kentucky. I grew up a poor kid on Jefferson Street in Happy Hollow in Pikeville, Kentucky, a place rich in characters of all kinds and my brother and I had the run of the town. My Dad was a bootlegger (which came naturally, since my granddad and great granddad were moonshiners) and Dad also ran a card game and got most of the liquor business in the dry town and was liked by everybody except maybe some of the wives of his customers. He was the most honest man I ever knew and would help those in need and not accept reimbursement from most and he never spent a day in jail. My growing up was rich in characters. I graduated from Pikeville High School in 1961 and Pikeville College (on a workship) in 1965. On July 28, 1965, I married Judith Kaye Hopkins, the prettiest and most spirited girl in Kentucky. She was called home by our Creator in 2011 after a long illness but we had 45 great years together. I went to work for the Social Security Administration in August, 1965 and worked for them until I took early out with pension and bonus in August, 1990. I had my own business, a liquor store, naturally, until I sold it in 1996. I worked in driving jobs as a bank courier, mine parts runner (my favorite job) and railroad taxi driver until December, 2015, when my job was eliminated on the railroad yard due to decline in coal in this area. I always wanted to be a writer. In high school, I had an English teacher (Christine Goodman, a wonderful teacher) who gave the class an assignment to write a story and I liked westerns, so I wrote about a sheriff in the old west. To my horror and the amusement of my friends, Mrs. Goodman read the story to the entire class. I wanted to write more after that but work and career and raising a daughter and son kept me busy until I retired in 1990. I had time to write for the first time. I wrote a lot of children's stories and a couple for young adults but the publishers always said the same thing. They liked my stories but it was not what they were looking for at the time. I always liked western books and movies, so I decided to give that a try. I have written five complete novels about two brothers who fought as rebels in the Civil War in Missouri and Kansas. These books are all on Kindle ebooks and ACX audio books. I hope to write at least two more books about the Thorntons but I am presently working on book two of The Watcher, a present day story about a lawman in Eastern Kentucky and a vigilante, who is fighting a drug cartel bringing heroin into his county. I like the characters in this book a lot. I believe a book should be fast-paced and interesting and if the reader does not find it hard to put down, I have failed. Thank you for considering my work. You can never know how much this means to me. If you have any problems with my books, let me know and I will try to resolve them.
