Good storyline
Reviewed: 10-30-21
Although Traci Odom’s voice was lovely and would have been fine for Pen, the lack of a male voice for Jack really ruined the audio version of this book. The storyline was very good, but I also missed the budding romance between Pen & Jack in her dreams.

Story
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Beautiful and Emotional
Reviewed: 11-17-20
My aunt was a Pack Horse Librarian (Down Cut Shin Creek was written about and dedicated to her). I could picture my grandmother’s house when they described the one room cabins and I know the dialect so well, so I found the book quite authentic and needless to say quite emotional for me. I will definitely read this more than once.

Great story, confusing voices

Loved the story, but the voices were often the same for different characters even though at other times they would be completely different

I normally read murder mysteries but chose this because it was a “read and Listen free” with kindle unlimited. What a wonderful and powerful story about breaking the cycle of abuse.
