Was not a fan of the MFC,m
Reviewed: 08-17-24
The writing and world building were alright but I get past the how annoying the MFC was. I think you can be a strong lady without being a clueless snarky B which is what this character was. She initially seemed cognizant of her flaws but then she just kept compounding on them. I was particularly not a fan of any of her interactions with the mmc. Just seemed childish. Maybe if I were a younger reader but I had to stop because I couldn’t take it and time is better spend elsewhere.

Did not like the MFC
Reviewed: 08-14-24
I wanted to like this book and it had good reviews but it flopped for me. I did not like the MFC and the romance felt forced. She missed so many flags and behaved so belligerent that I found it hard to believe she should have survived at all. Also I don’t buy that she could have remained so ignorant for as long as she did. MMCs had to keep rescuing her from her own stupidity that I couldn’t buy into that either. MMC felt like they were just there but didn’t have much depth. “Twists” were predictable and the world building was interesting but not complete. Doubt I’ll continue reading.

Barely finished
Reviewed: 08-02-24
I didn’t like any of the characters. Felt like the author was purposefully portraying them as very flawed in the beginning to try to build up to a diamond in the rough reveal which fell flat. Really the attempts at tricky reveals of off the page plotting was just annoying though perhaps I’m jaded from reading some of her other series. Either way, I don’t think I’ll continue with this author.

Main female character is rash and stupid
Reviewed: 06-18-24
I went into this with high hopes. It did have some good aspects but…the MFC was just so rash and stupid. She would constantly blame herself for causing harm ( both justified and unjustified) then rashly target someone to take her anger out on again and again without ever thinking. Then when she would pout about it only to do it again. Her blindness about this got really annoying. Not sure if I’ll be able to make it to the next or not.

MFC is awful
Reviewed: 01-27-24
My fault for not learning my lesson after the first book but I was hoping that in book 2 she’d grow. Alas she’s just as self centered and dim witted as the first. I found myself thinking that if MMC could have chosen his mate, it wouldn’t have been with someone so childish.

Not great but not the worst.

Performance was clear but had same peppy cadence and feeling no matter what was happening in the scene.
The story was predictable and I found Alex very immature in the way she avoided emotion. Possibly would have helped to have a different narrator but not sure.

Pathetic heroine
Reviewed: 10-15-23
The story had potential but the heroine was such a pushover it was painful. She did improve but it was hard to buy because of the complete 180 nature of it. it is frustrating to read about a women who is so easily manipulated like the situations are so black and white. Particularly by her sister. Just a rough read if you take seriously .

Christmas is already a stressful time of the year without adding a billionaire to the mix. Men suck. They break you. Leave you. Take everything until there's nothing left. And frankly, I'm done allowing them to make me feel insignificant. So, forget men. I'll just throw myself into my job, because at least that never fails me. Jackson has other plans, though. I refuse to be impressed by his perfect body, the cute dimple on his cheek, or the rugged stubble on his face. Jackson Cole can be resisted. But, I'm only fooling myself. He's going to wear me down. I can feel it. In the end he'll prove that once again, I'm no one's beloved.

Had a promising beginning but while I can get passed the initial nativity this went well into stupidity and really got to me. The romance between them wasn’t developed enough but could have been and she just kept lying past the point of reason. I did like the storm between each chapter as it helped delineate things. The author used the word “narcotic” far too often. Not sure if I’ll go for the second book no matter the ending.
