Best book I've read in such a long time

Loved this book so much. I could say that it's like if Neil Gaiman and Douglas Adam's had a demonic baby... but it's better even than that. The bureaucracy of hell was intensely funny, the main character Lazslo was simply fantastic (one of those characters who I will literally never forget) and now everyone needs to read this book so I can make funny references that people will understand. The world building was also superb. It would make a great movie. Reeeeead it. You definitely won't regret it.

Coming off the heels of a Ninth House & Hell Bent, I had high expectations. I was hoping for a tale of basque region witchcraft, and was sorely disappointed. Throughout the book, the histories were shallow and the entire thing would have been much better suited as a short story. I found it to be incredibly boring, ultimately... as much as I wanted and was hoping to like it.

It's not great. It wasn't terrible... but there's not a lot of depth to the story. There's not a lot of originality here, and the ending was pretty anti-climactic. It's like the author decided to re-write Rosemary's baby and do a spin.

I've always been a big fan of the movie, never had a chance to read the book though. I'm happy I thought to look up the audio book though, because Mia Farrow did a phenomenal job. I'll listen to this more than once.

Great book, really not crazy about the narrator though... just his voice.

also, can't listen to it a second time for some reason.
