Another well developed story
Reviewed: 10-03-23
The Advocate’s Nightmare was a very pleasant listen as far as an interesting storyline that is satisfactorily resolved. The ending is not easily solved and the characters and twists are not confusing to follow. I enjoyed hearing more about characters that have been in each of the Advocate books.
This is the first Advocate book that I have “read” as an audio book. I will go back to reading the books on my Kindle in the future. I didn’t like the voices given to many of the characters by the reader. The narration was wonderfully done but characters could use improvement. That’s my personal taste - the next audio reader may find them exactly right for their taste.

Excellent book, and a bit sad, too.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I have to admit I was a bit skeptical because it was not written by Vince Flynn. Kyle Mills did a great job of writing in Vince's style and keeping the characters true to prior books.
As always, George Guidall's performance was stellar.
Not only was it a bit sad to read a book of Vince's characters that was not by him because of his passing, it was also sad to bid goodbye to Sam Hurley. Although Vince was young and Sam was old, there is a parallel. You wonder how things can go on and remain as good as they were. Kyle Mills has done a good job in providing hope that Mitch Rapp will be with us in the future.

Story
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

Depressing but enthralling

Water for Elephants is one of the most depressing story lines I've read in quite some time. Sara Gruen is an excellent writer and it is her turn of words that kept me listening to the very end. On the positive side, the ending is great - it made me want to cheer aloud! If you enjoy excellent writing that allows you to conjure a vivid mental picture of each scene, you won't be disappointed. The character development is fabulous and you'll have friends and enemies among them.
