this is an excellent introduction into fantasy. the voice actor absolutely kills the vibe of each chapter and sets the setting well.

A Captivating Masterpiece.

A must read, perfectly crafted masterpiece by Taran Matharu.
As a fan of the unique nature and untapped expanse that is the Summoner series, Taran Matharu shows he has true vision.
This series has me hooked from start to finish on a non stop thrillride.
the narrator Pat Young brings this story to life as you truly feel the voice of the characters and the emotions they feel through the narrative.
the use of historical mysterious events isn't unique to the fantasy genre but I have never seen it used so effectively.
Thats not all!
The use of mental and fisical illnesses, Racism, class systems of upper and lower class citizens, Slavery, Brain over brawn, skill over power, experience and courage in the face of true fear and uncertainty. the use of time jumps between past and present and the ever present ticking of the clock makes you feel the urgency!
This is something special. The Contender series is amazing.
Its like the Hunger Games, Jurassic Park and the Odyssey all got thrown into a blender and then perfectly mixed to create something new and extraordinary that stands all on its own.

I don't often wright reviews but this is hands down one of the best books in the series. if you made it through the slog this book from start to finish Is your reward and the pay off is earned only to have you on the edge of your seat in anticipation for the next book or even wanting to go back to the earlier novels to see how much really was foreshadowed in such a subtle way. if your reading this considering if you want to buy this audio book I only have one thing to say to you "its time to roll the dice".
