LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

One of my personal favorites

So let me start off by saying that this series is worth it both due to the interesting story and the absolutely stellar performance by Travis Baldree. But we all know Travis is a bloody genius when it comes to narration, so no surprise there. Furthermore, this review is being written just after the release of the 5th book and I've listened to them all. I'll break this down into parts to hopefully make it more easy to digest and decide if it fits your own interests.

**The Story**
The underlying story isn't entirely unique (it is a litRPG afterall), but it does provide it's own twists and turns along the way. It's clever and takes itself seriously but isn't afraid to add a dash of humor here and there. There were times when the action had me totally engrossed and forgetting whatever else I may have been doing. Other times I found myself surprised and genuinely laughing when a scenario played out in certain ways or a joke was made with impeccable timing. As with all LitRPG's there are times when the grind is buckled down and we have to trudge through.. but I found it to be pretty minimal and actually rather enjoyable due to other elements. Romance plays very little to no part in the story directly and our MC is not the "I met them once and now they love me" type of MC thankfully. No harems, no weirdly forced love interests. For some that may seem like a turn off as they enjoy romance mixed in, but I say even so you should give this series a go.
Rating: 4.2/5

**The Main Character**
Our MC is a man who by all accounts would be considered average in our world. He had a good job and wasn't a total outcast but also struggled with social settings which I believe many of us readers can relate to in one way or another. I won't say a lot about our MC but he definitely has a personality, isn't entirely 1 dimensional, and sticks true to his own moral code. He grows continuously in power and the author does a good job of illustrating this growth. His growth of character is slow but does develop over time. Truly, I enjoy this MC more than most.
Rating: 4.5/5

**The System**
The staple of the LitRPG, we have a system. Stats, Levels, Skills, Evolutions, Grades, Rarities, etc. Everything you'd want from a book of this genre. That said, it doesn't focus too hard on the stats. Though the stats are important, the focus is instead on the understanding of the different energies, clever use of skills, and overall the personal discoveries. There are a few times when the entire status screen is read out but it isn't too common and generally can be skipped through if you're not interested in hearing it. Skills are interesting and often have more than meets the eye.
Rating: 4/5

**Side Characters**
Often times in these kinds of books we end up not really caring about any of the side characters. Though they don't hold the same level of interest as the MC, I often found myself interested in the stories of the other characters as well. They are unique and have their own objectives and goals. Many of them develop and change over time. It isn't all the time and they certainly are not main characters, but we get glimpses into their point of view and see some of their history.
Rating: 4.7/5

**Narrator**
It's Travis Baldree and I swear this man never misses. Fantastic narration that truly breaths life into the books. Most LitRPG's I listen to are one's I've found through looking at what Travis has narrated, this series included. If you haven't heard his name before then just be ready for a fantastic listen. Travis does an excellent job of making each character sound unique and alive. I'm not even sure he uses a script when he reads as it all sounds so natural and fluid
Rating: Travis Baldree---Numbers wouldn't do him justice, he gets his own ranking

At the end of the day, I loved these books and look forward to the continuation. Listen to the first one and make your decision on if it's for you or not, but I absolutely recommend giving it a go

Very Entertaining

I absolutely enjoyed this audiobook! Jake comes off a little psychotic to those who aren't in his head like the listeners but that just makes things more fun. The last several books I've listened to had whimpy MCs that complain nonstop so this book was a much needed reprieve. My only complaints are the pacing (the tutorial isn't finished in this book) , that Jake is always way over thinking (feels like 70% inner thoughts 30% actual actions), and Jake never gets that sweet looking gear on the front cover.

Truly enjoyed the book!!!

Purchased kindle book and audio book so I could listen to something on my way to and from work. I purchased book 2 by chapter 20 or so. This book is very good. It has magic, leveling, stats and almighty gods! MC is not to over powered which is good. The world is also very simple and straight forward. I highly recommend you purchase the book and start either reading or listening!!!

I mostly liked this story

The narration is on point as always. I was really into the story at times but in the middle there were sections (the poison dungeon) where I felt the story had bad pacing and was boring. Don’t Know if I will listen to the next book but do not regret listening to this one.
