Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Dudes will love it too
Reviewed: 06-10-19
I got this book primarily because of its high rating, but I was leery as it was portrayed as a love story. It was far more than a love story and I enjoyed it immensely! I love how the author made nature one of the characters. The reading of this story was incredible.

Story
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Language ruined it

Listened to about five minutes of it and, after multiple F-bombs, shut it off and returned it. From all the reviews he sounds like a great guy with a good message. Too bad his good character doesn't extend to his language.

Better Read Than Heard

Loved the book and its main idea. But it was a hard listen, especially during the parts where you're supposed to practice and write your own prayers. I think I'll re-read it.

Ann Redfield is destined to follow her brother Jesse through life - two years behind him - all the way. Jesse is a conductor on the Underground Railroad, and Ann follows him there as well. Quakers filled with a conviction as hard as Pennsylvania limestone that slavery is an abomination to be resisted with any means available, the Redfield brother and sister lie, sneak, masquerade, and defy their way past would-be enforcers of the hated Fugitive Slave Law.

Gripping story but bland narrator
Reviewed: 07-13-16
Wonderful story! Literally could not stop listening. The narrator was a bit bland. All the voices sounded so much the same that it was hard to tell sometimes who was speaking. It was read like a parent telling a bedtime story rather than by a professional reader. However, the story is too good to be ruined by the way it was read. I would say to get this book!

Story
Anthony Spencer is egotistical, proud of being a self-made business success at the peak of his game, even though the cost of winning was painfully high. A cerebral hemorrhage leaves Tony comatose in a hospital ICU. He 'awakens' to find himself in a surreal world, a 'living' landscape that mirrors dimensions of his earthly life, from the beautiful to the corrupt.

I read The Shack before I became a Christian and it definitely influenced me to give my life to Jesus. I saw other reviewers say that this book is NOT The Shack. That's right, it's not. But it's just as well (if not better!) written and just as provocative. I love the personification of the Trinity. It makes me feel God more personally in my life. Performance was outstanding!

I think this book would be a good read and an even better devotional, perhaps doing one subject per day. Listening to it was difficult with the weighty ideas, big words and archaic language. I wanted to understand but couldn't very well go back and listen to whole parts over again. With a book you could ponder ideas and re-read when needed.
