The funny and talented Chip Gaines is well known to millions of people as a TV star, renovation expert, bestselling author, husband to Joanna, and father of four in Waco, Texas. But long before the world took notice, Chip was a serial entrepreneur who was always ready for the next challenge. Whether it was buying a neighborhood laundromat or talking a bank into a loan for some equipment to start a lawn-mowing service, Chip always knew that the most important thing was to take that first step.

Story
Why do you sing at church? It's a question we almost never ask out loud. Yet, this is a question that is central to the lives of Christians who regularly gather together for worship. Do you sing to God? Or do you "address one another in hymns and spiritual songs", as the scripture says? Do you close your eyes? What is your posture in worship? This book is designed with these questions in mind.

If you are in a church choir, sing, like to hear Christian music, want to know why the lyrics speak to you--then get the book.
Even if you have the hard copy, get the audible version. You get to hear the Gettys talk and sing some of their most famous pieces.

Dentistry is an evidence based profession. The evidence of this book is very biased and one sided. If dentistry is so bad then why does the public rate it so highly. Physicians and emergency centers frequently are paid more for a 5 minute exam and writing of prescription for a dental abcess than the dentist would be paid for treatment of the patient. The system is definitely flawed but the author goes out of her way to blame the dentist. Dentistry by design is a prevention based practice. Medicine uses a disease based model and only a few practice prevention based. Dealing with the treatment and claims submitted in the Medicaid system is a nightmare. Many states actually reward the insurance companies that save the plan money denied the dentist for patients care. The parents are responsible for child care........

Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Deja vu for me
Reviewed: 07-23-16
I was raised lower middle class. Not with the violence portrayed in the book but with the values and the incentive for a better life. I'm now a successful dentist. I wish that there was a version without the cussing and swearing for my grandkids to listen to. I'm in a very low socioeconomic community and understand the plight of many of my patients. I've shared the book with most of my 'reader" patients. And will continue to. But always with the caveat of the language. I can't share with most of my dental colleagues about my bootstrap early existence because they won't understand. But I can relate to my welfare patients and give back when I can.

Living on the edge of Mississippi, I know and speak Southern. Mr Hill really has a problem with the way that black folks speak today. He must have learned from Roots and Gone With the Wind. Most of my black friends are educated and do not stutter.
