About this listen
2016 Voice Arts Award Finalist
Coaching is an essential skill for leaders. But for most busy, overworked managers, coaching employees is done badly, or not at all. They're just too busy, and it's too hard to change.
But what if managers could coach their people in 10 minutes or less?
In Michael Bungay Stanier's The Coaching Habit, coaching becomes a regular, informal part of your day so managers and their teams can work less hard and have more impact.
Drawing on years of experience training more than 10,000 busy managers from around the globe in practical, everyday coaching skills, Bungay Stanier reveals how to unlock your peoples' potential. He unpacks seven essential coaching questions to demonstrate how - by saying less and asking more - you can develop coaching methods that produce great results.
- Get straight to the point in any conversation with The Kickstart Question
- Stay on track during any interaction with The Awe Question
- Save hours of time for yourself with The Lazy Question, and hours of time for others with The Strategic Question
- Get to the heart of any interpersonal or external challenge with The Focus Question and The Foundation Question

We've all had experiences with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drain intelligence, energy, and capability from the people around them and always need to be the smartest people in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them.

Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories that range from the military to big business, from government to investment banking.

Mindfulness is not about complicated and otherworldly woo-woo spiritual practices. It doesn't require you to be a part of any religion or a movement. What mindfulness is about is living a good life (that's quite practical, right?), and this book is all about deepening your awareness, getting to know yourself, and developing attitudes and mental habits that will make you not only a successful and effective person in life, but a happy and wise one as well.

A quick yet powerful read
loved it. listened to it 2x, and will certainly refer bavk to it often, as there were many powerful tops and insights. A must read for anyone beginning a career un coaching, or looking to imrove, hone, or enhance their coaching style. I believe it is the best book on coaching I have read to date, though I haven't read a great number of books on coaching, this one will be hard to top.

YOU need to listen to this book...
Any additional comments?
The audio version was awesome... +PLUS at the time of this review - I have already listened to The Coaching Habit FIVE (5) times (and counting :-)
Although the content may be written more for the business world... I discovered that Michael's book really helped me with asking the right questions, which has helped me with #TrainingTheFuture of youth #fastpitch #softball players, parents, and coaches.
Especially the best question ever… "A.W.E." (i.e. You have to order the book to discover the incredible A.W.E. question and how to use it :-)
THANK YOU - Mr. Stanier for taking the time to share these awesome questions, processes, and ideas!
AUDIO BOOK HINT: Do you want to listen to every audio book 25% or 50% or 100% faster? Simply select the audio speed to 1.25x, 1.50x, 2x.
However, on your first listen you should listen at regular speed - unless you have A.D.D (Adult Distraction Disorder) or S.O.S. (Shiney Object Syndrome)
Based on Michael's speaking speed... 1.5x was the perfect faster speed for me and my A.D.D.
Enjoy da book and have a great day eh!

Informative
This books takes several concepts and ties them into it's own formula. If you have read many development books you can see where the influence comes from. He also cites so if you aren't familiar, he will tell you.
The questions are not mind blowing, rather pretty simplistic and respectful. well thought out acknowledging many aspects from drive, motivation to autonomy, desires, and basic interpretations. Thus, making the questions safe and eliminating a loaded question that could detur a coaching situation. They are basic as to not confuse the employee too.
This is a book I may need to listen to a second go as it does draw so many thoughts and sources. At the end, he does list some recommendations many of which he did cite.

Super Practical
Decided to read this book along with a teammate who told me about it. Not knowing what to expect, it was very engaging and practical. The questions mentioned in this book were supported by some helpful examples and a good amount of explanation regarding the psychology.
The list of book recommendations at the end was also extremely helpful.

Lacks substance
Many of the stories are too long and the actual content is too short. The reader is regularly referred to a website for more information.
