Story
Marshall Miller would’ve remembered her face even if he hadn’t seen it on a MISSING poster. When a young woman disappears in his small town, the investigation hinges on Marshall’s haunted sighting of her, crying in the back seat of a police car driven by a cop named Maddox. There’s only one problem: no local cop named Maddox exists. But the speeding ticket he handed to Marshall certainly does.

First time
Reviewed: 06-26-24
This was my first time listening to (or reading) Scott Carson. It is also my first time listening to Corey Brill. I count my blessings that Scott is a good writer and Corey is a good narrator.
Scott has created a wonderful WHO DONE IT mystery as we are heading into the 21st century. As background, the Y2K Bug (hoax as I call it) plays an important part in the background.
The mystery is handled beautifully, the reveal is a surprise I didn't see coming.
And Corey moves the story along at the perfect pace and tone.
I am looking forward to reading more Scott Carson and listening to another mystery narrated by Corey Brill

Story
Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.

One sitting listen
Reviewed: 04-24-24
I had planned (as I normally do when listening to audiobooks at home) to listen to this one or so hours at a time. But, (as always happens) I got hooked on Frank Muller's narration. I was there in the field beginning with the first word. Frank is a hypnotist and draws the listener and won't let go. So, rather than breaking it up into little chunks, I spent the day working and drawing and editing photos while listening to Frank Muller read All Quiet on the Western Front to me. I was sad when it was over.
Sad about the story and sad that the story was over.

You've lost your daughter. She's addicted to drugs and to an abusive boyfriend. And she's made it clear that she doesn't want to be found. Then, by chance, you see her playing guitar in Central Park. But she's not the girl you remember. This woman is living on the edge, frightened, and clearly in trouble. You don't stop to think. You approach her, beg her to come home. She runs.

Not one of his best
Reviewed: 04-22-24
I've either read or listened to a number of works by Harlan Coben. I've even watched the Netflix adaptations. Normally I enjoy the style of writing he does. But not this time.
This barely qualifies as "average". In fact, I may be rating it too high by giving 2 stars Overall.
As always Steven Weber gives his all and does a masterful job of telling this story.
It's just disappointing that he didn't have a better story to work with.

A tolerable Reacher knockoff
Reviewed: 03-30-24
I don't think I read any info or promos for ISOLATED where the blurb screamed IF YOU LIKE REACHER YOU'LL LOVE JASON KING. If I had, I would have saved my credit. Although, reading the description should have rung a bell.
The story is weak and cliched with cardboard cutout characters and a plot filled with bumps and potholes than any road in Michigan. I never felt connected to anything or anyone. It was "pull a 3x5 card with a bit of info on it and see if it can be shoehorned into the story". Looking at the Matt Rogers website, you see that Matt has written 50+ books, plus short stories in about 7 years. Matt is a crank-em-out author who doesn't have time to plot or build characters. It's trope after cliche after half-baked info. I'll not be reading anything else by an author who so little respect for readers.
That being said, the narrator, Roger Wayne, did very well with the material he was paid to work with. I'll be looking for something else narrated by Mr. Wayne. Rest assured though, it won't be something written by Matt Rogers.

Story
A lone narrator meets a railway worker who is confined to a cold, gloomy station in a deep cutting near a tunnel entrance. This worker is a signalman, and it is his responsibility to give the green light for trains to pass through the area. These are slow, monotonous days. The signalman’s life is not marked by much, until the nightmares begin. Three times in a row, a ghost mysteriously appears before the signalman – and with each apparition, a tragic accident unfolds on the rail tracks. Although our narrator doubts the man at first, events soon make him a believer too.

I’m not usually a fan of music and sound effects as part of my audiobook experience, but I will admit that this sound production enhanced rather than distracted.
Mr. Mendes did a great job with the telling of this Dickens short-story.
The story itself is very old school, because it is old school. In the hands of another writer, the story may have plopped to the ground with a splat. Dickens kept it interesting.

Story
Divorced from his own wife and carrying on halfheartedly with another man's, saddled with a bum knee and friends who make enemies redundant, Sully now has one new problem to cope with: a long-estranged son who is in imminent danger of following in his father's footsteps. With its uproarious humor and a heart that embraces humanity's follies as well as its triumphs, Nobody's Fool, from Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Richard Russo, is storytelling at its most generous. Nobody’s Fool was made into a movie starring Paul Newman, Bruce Willis, Jessica Tandy, and Melody Griffith.

A great novel
Reviewed: 07-07-23
I saw the movie years ago when it was first released.
At the time I had no idea that it was based on a novel.
About a decade ago I finally began reading Richard Russo. I must say that he has never disappointed me.
Unfortunately, Ron McClarty, one of the great narrators, is done a disservice due to the questionable audio quality of his read. I realize that this was recorded early this century, but there are ways to improve audio quality so that it sounds somewhat contemporary.
That's my minor quibble about a great novel. Listen to it, but be aware that it will sound like it's been recorded to cassette through a Radio Shack dynamic microphone.

This story is a great Connelly police procedure, and Dick Hill's narration is the ice on the cake.
I can recommend this book to others without hesitation.

In May 1940, he was captured at Dunkirk and interned in several German forced labour camps throughout Poland. Two years later, he was transferred to Auschwitz IV. When his captors appointed Jackson their ‘Kapellmeister’ (man in charge of music), he seized the opportunity to provide entertainment for his fellow prisoners at rehearsals and cover for escapees during concerts.

Let's be thankful that Henry Barnes Jackson managed to hold onto his labor camp diaries so that decades later we could hear how a simple twist of musical fate helped with his survival in the camps. And thanks also to Jaci Byrne, his granddaughter, for getting the diaries organized for publication.
Toby Stephens was the perfect narrator for Heny's story. His narration style draws you into the story in a way that makes it hard to leave.
Good job Jaci, Henry, and Toby for bringing this to life.
