Story
Just as I Am is my truth. It is me, plain and unvarnished, with the glitter and garland set aside. Here, I am indeed Cicely, the actress who has been blessed to grace the stage and screen for six decades. Yet I am also the church girl who once rarely spoke a word. I am the teenager who sought solace in the verses of the old hymn for which this book is named. I am a daughter and mother, a sister, and a friend. I am an observer of human nature and the dreamer of audacious dreams.

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Will Smith does a fantastic job recounting his personal story and pulling the audience in. Definitely not dry or boring. I also very much enjoyed the small musical interludes he squeezes in throughout the story. This is definitely something that I would have missed if I’d read the book vs listening to it.
If you’ve followed Will Smith’s career in any aspect: music, movies, or tv, you’ll love this book! Definitely on my list of favorite memoirs!

Story
Donovan and I met at a coffee shop to do the suitcase exchange. Turned out, it wasn’t just his voice that was sexy. The man holding my luggage was absolutely gorgeous, and we had an immediate spark. He got me to admit that I’d snooped in his bag and then convinced me to make it up to him by letting him buy me coffee. Coffee led to dinner, dinner led to dessert, and dessert led to spending an entire weekend together. So what did I do to repay him for his kindness? I waited until he was in the shower, then ghosted him.

I was a bit impressed by Sebastian York who did the male voices in this story. Many of the side characters has accents and such and he just never missed a beat! I truly felt like different folks were speaking and I loved it!
The overall story was very sweet and engaging. I liked that the author took their time in telling the story and kept readers guessing. A great romantic weekend read!

Austin tells her own story as a Black Christian woman in America beautifuly! I could relate to many of the things she shared, but I also think this is a great book for white Christian folks to read who are trying to understand the BLM movement, or understand why the notion of diversity often fails in white churches.

Story
The construct of race has always been used to gain and keep power, to create dynamics that separate and silence. This remarkable reimagining of Dr. Ibram X. Kendi's National Book Award-winning Stamped from the Beginning reveals the history of racist ideas in America, and inspires hope for an antiracist future. It takes you on a race journey from then to now, shows you why we feel how we feel, and why the poison of racism lingers. It also proves that while racist ideas have always been easy to fabricate and distribute, they can also be discredited.

I have the original book, Stamped from the beginning, but this is a perfect adoption. The other book can be intimidating and this version was easy to follow and engaging to read. Great for teens, but also adults that don't feel ready for thicker version.

I didn't think this story would be as good as it was. The author does a great job at keeping readers on their toes. Even though the story is ultimately a love story, It's driven by the mystery of who Nyell is, and what happened in the past.
It started slow, but I was engaged through most of the story and very entertained!
