Story
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Excellent book! I enjoyed reminiscing about all the old things mentioned..Bullocks, Thomas Guide, Candy stripers and Coronado! Most importantly I enjoyed learning more about Vietnam and all of the people that gave so much.

I felt such a connection to you. My grandma passed away the day after I began this book. I’m also from California and the stories shared I’ve been there. Then the ending brought me full circle with the loss of dear grandma. Thank you for sharing such wonderful memories.
