But as soon as she cuts back her hours, Agatha remembers that when she has too much quality time, she doesn't know what to do with it. So it doesn't take much for the vicar of a nearby village to persuade her to help publicize the church fete, especially when the fair's organizer, George Selby, happens to be a gorgeous widower.

In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Very inaccurate “history”. And very rambling attempt at a book. More like a barely researched monologue centred on caffeine withdrawal. Glad I didn’t pay for it.

The book is okay, but the volume is ruined by a narrator who is not familiar with the subject matter: many of the Hebrew words, surnames, places, holiday names, etc. were horribly mispronounced.

starts good, ends very poorly

The story shows a lot of promise through most of the book, but ends very poorly, like the author ran out of interest in writing the story. The last several chapters each have a climatic-like summary going on, so by the time you get to the final end, it feels like the story has ended 5 or 6 times already, but still is not satisfying.

Story
When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

I think the only reason this book was published was the author's prior history: if it had been written by a first time author it would likely have been put in the trash can. It is a horrible piece of writting not worth the listen. While there is a semblence of plot and storyline, it is not worthy of the hype and certainly is not worth the price of the book.

Married off at 17, she suffered from anxiety and was shamed by an inability to please her older husband. But after giving birth to a son at age 19, Feldman realized it was time to tear up her roots and make her own path in life.

What did you love best about Unorthodox?
I enjoyed learning more about this particular sect of the Orthodox culture, but the author does misrepresent some aspects of it in her bias against it.
Would you ever listen to anything by Deborah Feldman again?
No. I do not think she has anything rational to say in terms of Orthodox writing, and her writing is not sophisticatied enough enough to warrant another listen.
Which character – as performed by Rachel Botchan – was your favorite?
Zayde.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No -- I had to put it away and come back to it, as the book made me angry at times, with the selfishness and complete disregard for anyone else's feelings and perspective.
Any additional comments?
To anyone who reads this book: please do not think this is what the Orthodox culture is like. Not by a long shot. She paints a horrible picture of what is in tuth a very loving culture that focuses on learning, family and yes, religious life. This is a book that seems to be written out of revenge against the people she grew up with. It is written in such a way that it can only be an exaggeration at points, so cannot really be honest autobiography.
