Story
There's no such thing as a perfect guy, but Xavier Rush comes disastrously close. A gorgeous veterinarian giving Greek god vibes—all while cuddling a tiny kitten? Immediate yes. That is until Xavier opens his mouth and proves that even sculpted gods can say the absolute wrong thing. Like, really wrong. Of course, there’s nothing Samantha loves more than proving an asshole wrong . . . unless, of course, he can admit he made a mistake.

Also, this book was exceptionally well narrated. I very highly recommend

Reproachful
Reviewed: 03-24-25
The word reproach was used way too many times in this book. The overall story was alright, and it held my interest for the most part. But the writing and the narration both seemed rather immature. I definitely didn't love this book, and wouldn't recommend it

Story
Kristen Petersen doesn't do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don't get her. She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children. Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen - especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family.

I enjoyed this book so much. There was definitely laughter, but also tears.
The female narrator wasn't my favorite, especially when she said Kristen at the beginning of her chapters (cringy), but overall I can definitely recommend this listen

As a diver, there are parts of this book that I absolutely loved, and parts that saddened me.
As someone who remembers a time before computers and internet, there are parts of this book that are absolutely terrifying.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but certain parts felt either beyond me intellectually, or were just to confusing to tie together the timeline.
And with this many narrators, some were very good, and some were less so, but I still enjoyed the listen.

Story
The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: Circumstantial evidence suggests that 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life. When Ellie Hathaway, a disillusioned big-city attorney, comes to Paradise, Pennsylvania, to defend Katie, two cultures collide - and for the first time in her high-profile career, Ellie faces a system of justice very different from her own.

Not my favorite, but still so good!

One of my favorite things about JP novels is that I am guaranteed to learn something, and I did. I also stayed interested from beginning to end, and from me, that is a big compliment.
However, this story did seem to drag on a lot, and so much of it felt like it was happening in real time, especially the parts in a courtroom. I did not love the narration for most of this book either. Having said all of this, Jodi Picoult is still a superior writer, and I look forward to my next book from her

Unreliable narrator
Reviewed: 01-24-25
I waited a long time for this book to come out, but after I started it, I wasn't even sure I would finish it. I absolutely do not enjoy an unreliable narrator. Whether they have amnesia, or they are drunk or drugged all the time... or just generally think they're losing their minds, if I know it in advance, I won't even read or listen to it. This story line is SO far fetched, and it doesn't have any really likable characters, so at this point I'm just glad it's over, and I think my 2 star rating is generous. I definitely can't recommend the book.

Should probably be 5 starts
Reviewed: 01-17-25
Jody Picoult is an exceptional author, probably one of the best of my generation. And whether I want to or not, I always learn something when I read, or listen to one of her books. I am giving this novel 4 stars instead of the 5 it probably deserves, because 1) I hold her to a higher standard. 2) for me, there was just too much Egyptology detail , and 3) the narrator made Wyatt's voice far to feminine.
Obviously I am nit picking, and I still very highly recommend this book.
On a personal side note, after a recent loss, I found the death doula parts of this story comforting and insightful .

Story
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Story
Young playwright Melina Green has just written a new work inspired by the life of her Elizabethan ancestor Emilia Bassano. But seeing it performed is unlikely, in a theater world where the playing field isn’t level for women. As Melina wonders if she dares risk failure again, her best friend takes the decision out of her hands and submits the play to a festival under a male pseudonym.

I'm SO glad that I read enough reviews that said to listen anyway, and I highly recommend that you do too!
