Good read...

I have seen immediate improvement in my personal time management habits. I have listened to the book twice and will likely do it again in a month or so. I am still working up the will power to go through a cleaning out of my piles & boxes, but at least I know what to do when the time comes. The book makes sense.

Excellent listen for anyone who takes on a new management position. Lessons are centered on the CEO, but we all have boards and stakeholders to keep happy. Since there are a number of lists of important things to do and not do, I am seriously considering purchasing the hardcopy to use as a reference.

Her essays confront a wide range of subjects, icons, and historical moments: Ike, Teddy Roosevelt, and Bill Clinton; Canadian Mounties and German Filmmakers; Tom Cruise and Buffy the Vampire Slayer; twins and nerds; the Gettysburg Address, the State of the Union, and George W. Bush's inauguration. The result is an engrossing audiobook, capturing Vowell's memorable wit and her keen social commentary.

Leans left, but good even for right wingers...

Sarah Vowell writes from her heart. I love to hear her read her work. For this reason I was able to get through the listening of "The Partly Cloudy Patriot". I believe, like Sarah, that this is a country of different voices and each has a right to express themselves. It is good to hear the fairness in Sarah's voice, painful to hear some of her opinions that make my head want to explode. I am tired of listening to Gore supporters complain about the "stolen" election, but refreshed to hear someone articulate it beyond the hanging chad even if they are wrong(joke there). Sarah's honesty about her family relations shows her love and intelligence and helped me to find a bit more tolerance for my daughter, even if I don't understand it. This is a good book for people on the right whose favorite book is Matthew to get a glimpse of someone who does not think like they do but is just as honest, loving, and patriotic--if not more--than they are.

It is a true joy to listen to Sarah Vowell narrate her text. Not only is she witty with her words, but her voice sets off her writing in a way that no other could match. Sarah's narration of "Assassination Vacation" makes history interesting and takes it to a very personal level. This is one of the best audio books I have ever listened to.

Makes sense out of nebulous subjects
Reviewed: 03-17-05
"Execution" moves subjects such as performance management, strategy development, and operational execution into a form that logically links them and is easily understood. It makes sense. Too often, authors spout their theories or push their particular methodology for doing things that wind up being next to impossible to implement. The authors explain things in a way, using real world examples, that make me shake my head and wonder why managers make things so hard. The authors switch off with the narrator, which breaks things up, and makes the book much easier to listen and concentrate on the content for long periods of time. This is one of the best books I have encountered.
