Story
I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Story
Melville Heights is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Bristol, England. It’s the sort of place where doctors and lawyers and old-money academics live. It’s not the sort of place where people get stabbed in the back 30 times with a kitchen knife in their own homes. Someone must have seen something. Newlywed Joey Mullen, for example, recently returned from four years of working in Ibiza. She and her husband, Alfie, are eager to find a place of their own in her hometown. But Joey finds herself distracted by the man next door, Tom Fitzwilliam.

Took me a while to get interested and stay focused. Not Lisa Jewell’s best, but it picked up about half way through and I stayed interested enough until the end.

Story
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

A great love story. A great heartache. Childhood trauma. Alaska. The pain. How Alaska makes you tough. I kept thinking, this can’t be how it ends. I didn’t know where this story would end up, but I’m happy where it did.

Beautiful Historical Read!
Reviewed: 12-05-24
Wow. I love historical reads. This novel had me feeling the emotions with Frankie. I love the friendships that stood the test of time and distance. I love the love stories and how love was found in the middle of something absolutely terrible happening around them. I thought the story around drugs and alcohol and the paths and situations that lead these people to where they are was beautifully written and helps show how people get there that I think many people overlook. I also enjoyed reading this as a millennial and just how far women have come and overcome in the not so distant past. Just so so good.

Eva is a hot mess running from her past and doesn’t mind telling a fib or two to protect her secrets. It’s too bad that she moved to the nosiest small town in the world with Sheriff Sexy—the tall, built human lie detector. He’s suddenly showing interest and treating every conversation like it’s an interrogation. Donovan loves his nice, quiet hippie town, and he’s got some pretty strong feelings when it comes to a certain klutzy redhead, too. But she’s hiding something.

3.5 stars. I liked the story line, could have been a little shorter. It did keep me guessing in the beginning on who did it, but then I got it just didn’t know how it happened. A surprise in the epilogue.
