About this listen

A 2022 Audie Award Finalist

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone comes “her best thriller yet” (Harlan Coben, New York Times bestselling author) about a young couple’s disappearance on a gorgeous summer night, and the mother who will never give up trying to find them.

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend.

One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite place for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE.”

Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple? And what exactly is buried in this haunted ground?

“Utterly gripping with richly drawn, hugely compelling characters, this is a first-class thriller with heart” (Lucy Foley, New York Times bestselling author) that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Critic reviews

"Froggatt works to bring distinctive voices to the key players and is particularly effective at voicing Kim, who is now caring for her grandson because her daughter has disappeared. She also shifts effortlessly to the posh accents of the wealthy neighbors. Jewell provides listeners with appealing and well-rounded personalities and atmospheric settings. This thriller will keep listeners engaged." (AudioFile Magazine)

Lisa Jewell's books always hooks readers from the beginning and build immensely. The Night She Disappeared was no exception! Definitely one of her best books yet, her newest novel leaves readers wanting more. I have read just about all of her books and personally can't wait for another. If you've never read her books before, I high recommend this one. If you like this one, you will love her other work too!

Lisa Jewell does it again!

The Narrator: I usually start my reviews with the book (duh), but have to start this one with a review of the reader: GREAT! She makes the characters come to life without turning them into stereotypes. Scarlett’s voice was superb.

The story: I love Lisa Jewell. I thought this was one of my favorites. Who else does Implausible-But-Plausible this well? Write fast. I can’t wait for the next one.

I just got into mystery thrillers and I’m glad that I took a chance with this one.

I’ve listened to hundreds of audiobooks and the narrator can either make or break the story. I was blown away by Joanne Froggarts performance.

I later realized that it is the same Joanne Froggart who is an awesome actress. Duh! No wonder the performance was so amazing.

The plot line had me hooked within the 2nd chapter. It was unique and kept me guessing.

Well worth the listen!

I never wanted this story to end it was so entertaining and captivating and the narration was some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. This is one of those where you'll want to keep on driving if you're in your car or stay up late past your bedtime in order to keep listening. probably one of my all-time favorites and I've listened to tons and tons of mysteries.

best mystery ever

Loved it. If you are a Lisa Jewell fan, you will love this one. Just sit back and enjoy! The storyline and character development will keep you coming back for more. I have read some of the other reviews and I disagree that there are too many characters and hard to keep up. It’s definitely not difficult to follow. One could easily see this as a movie.

Another jewel by Jewell!
