The powerful Murdaugh dynasty had dominated rural South Carolina for generations. No one dared to cross them.

Too Opinionated. False Advertising
Reviewed: 11-30-23
I struggled to get through this book. Too many reflections of the author's enemies in the news industry and not enough about the Murdocks. Midway through Chapter 2 I just gave up.
Why would an author put himself or herself in the story?

Story
Body cams and dashcams have fundamentally transformed law enforcement in recent years. These innovations can help prove someone committed a crime, or didn't. Real-life footage has cleared people initially accused of wrongdoing, and in certain instances even implicated officers. But that same type of footage can also be used to clear police falsely accused of misdeeds. From allegations of harassment or bias to false arrests or even criminal conduct, these videos can prove officers did not cross a line as, sometimes, they are alleged to have done.

I enjoyed the story very well. I enjoyed the narration as well. I had to get used to the narrator saying Defender when describing the Defendants Attorney's. It sounded like Defendant. But later I did not notice.

Not enough of an immersion into the different characters. It was more of a documentary for juvenile justice reform, fetal alcohol syndrome, detecting liars. . . At the end it was just rambling. The story had great potential but not in this audio book

Story
Sarge! is a fascinating memoir by the late Chicago Police Detective Sergeant John A. DiMaggio, one of the most decorated officers on the force during a career that spanned the years 1957 to 1991. Told in a conversational, “regular guy” voice in episodic fashion, Sarge! reveals to the listener what it was really like to be a cop.

Story
In Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights, Brooklyn - neighborhoods notorious for drugs and violent crime - some of the worst criminals wore police uniforms and carried badges. Henry Winter was a good cop when he first entered the infamous 77th station house, which was already infamous as a home to the dregs of the NYPD. Before long he and fellow officer Anthony Magno found themselves deeply entrenched in the Alamo's culture of extortion, lies, corruption, and crime.

A 10 Chapter Eulogy is a bit too much for me
Reviewed: 02-02-23
I didn't even finish it because by the time I reached chapter 11 which is where the real story begins I was exhausted. I like true crime for the investigation and the trial and this book was not satisfying in that respect. The story also bashed the killer so much that I started to feel sorry for him.

Story
The day before Halloween 2004 was the last day on Earth for respected, well-liked college professor Fred Jablin. That morning, a neighbor discovered his body lying in a pool of blood in the driveway of Jablin's Virginia home. Police immediately turned their attentions to the victim's ex-wife, Piper, a petite, pretty Texas lawyer who had lost a bitter custody battle and would do anything to get her kids back. But Piper was in Houston, 1,000 miles away, at the time of the slaying and couldn't possibly have been the killer...could she?
