About this listen

The highly anticipated inside look at the collapse of the Murdaugh dynasty by the celebrated investigative journalist and creator of the #1 hit Murdaugh Murders Podcast, Mandy Matney.

Years before the name Alex Murdaugh was splashed across every major media outlet in America, local South Carolina journalist Mandy Matney had an instinct that something wasn’t right in the Lowcountry. The powerful Murdaugh dynasty had dominated rural South Carolina for generations. No one dared to cross them.

When Mandy and her reporting partner Liz Farrell looked closer at a fatal boat crash involving the storied family’s teenage son Paul, they began to uncover a web of mysteries surrounding the deaths of the Murdaughs’ long-time housekeeper and a young man found slain years earlier on a backcountry road. Just as their investigations were unfolding, the brutal double murder of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh rocketed Alex Murdaugh onto the international stage.

From the newsroom to the courtroom, to the kitchen-table studio where Mandy recorded her #1 Murdaugh Murders Podcast, Blood on Their Hands is a propulsive true crime saga, an empathetic work of investigative journalism, and an excoriation of the “good old boy” systems that enabled a network of criminals.

Not sure I’ll finish.

I don’t love it. The reading is odd. Exactly the same cadence throughout the book. The story is less about the crime and more about the author who I haven’t heard of and honestly didn’t care about when I bought the book. Her self reflection is super shallow and focused with some level of blame of those around her and ownership of her choices. I fast for are through her story because again I don’t buy the book for her. When reading you can tell exactly where the reader is in a sentence because the rise and fall and pace is exactly the same from sentence to sentence. I don’t know if I’ll finish.

Details that I haven’t heard

I loved the information that was revealed that I hadn’t yet heard. The whole story was put together in a very concise way that kept the reader focused. I disliked the feminist agenda that was sprayed throughout the book & I feel it could’ve been left out.

I knew it had to be a struggle, but…

I knew it had to be a struggle, but I didn’t know how difficult breaking the Murdaugh was considering I was late to the party. Thank you, Mandy, for your tenacity. There’s no way the dominoes would’ve fallen had made you continue to apply the pressure.

What a story! You did a great job.

Mandy, I found MMP early in your journey and I decided to do the audible version on purpose. I LOVE your voice now and I loved it then. Thank you for what you have done and I pray it inspires others to follow your lead. I'm from a small town in Oregon, much like "Murdaugh-ville" that could use a Mandy, Liz, and Eric, bringing the sunlight.

Bravo!

My Best Audible by Far

If your not already on the Best Sellers list you should be. Being a fan of your podcast since day one, I learned so much more with your life and the Murdough’s case.
Being born in Beaufort I loved you mentioned all the areas around town that I may be familiar with. Living in Aiken,SC I go to Oakie and visit my grandchildren, traveling thru Hampton. I never heard of the Murdough’s before the boat crash.
In my opinion I will recommend this read to all my friends. Mandy you did it and that’s a BIG DEAL!

Amazing

Great delivery of a difficult story. Still amazed by the strength of the victims and these journalists. Lessons for all of us in here. I like Mandy telling it in her own voice.

Hear it from the source

Mandy's book is so well done and really delivers the importance of the humans behind the stories that we are all so enthralled with. To see how Mandy's life story is entangled with this whole Murdaugh mess really brings to light why is so important to source your information from someone who is invested in getting it right. I feel like I've been on this journey with Mandy, Liz, David and Eric nearly from the beginning, but I truly enjoyed hearing about the ins and outs of the larger stories that couldn't be told in the podcast or print medium. She nailed it with this book!

Enthralling & Bold

This book is captivating and moving. I was familiar with the Murdaugh story and Mandy Matney’s podcast before reading this book so I wasn’t sure what more there was to learn from reading this book. It is so much more than the Murdaugh story. It’s an incredible story about persevere - by the victims, the community and Mandy Matney. One of the best nonfiction books I have ever read.

Bravo Mandy!!!

Living near Savannah and following the whole story from the beginning, it was very easy to become hooked on this saga. Mandy’s podcast and book have been amazing from the get-go and a must listen for me. I even got my sister who lives out of state hooked on the story. I told her that this whole story is crazy and something you just can’t make up. I’m so glad that they’re still covering the post trial craziness that keeps happening. I’m so proud of Mandy and the whole team!!! The book is a must read and so glad it’s also in audio format!!!

Loved hearing the backstory as a premium subscriber!

As a faithful COJ & Premium Subscriber I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the backstory to the weekly podcasts that have captivated my attention since the start! For those that seem disappointed or mislead, I suggest that you catch up on the podcast episodes. I was so glad that the book was not the same information that I had already heard.
