Story
Walt thinks he might find the answers he's looking for among the ruins of an old Native American boarding school—an institution designed to strip Native children of their heritage. He has been haunted by the image of the Fort Pratt Industrial Indian Training School ever since he first saw a faded postcard picturing a hundred boys in uniform, in front of a large, ominous building—a postcard that was given to him by Jimmy Lane, the father of Jeanie One Moon.

Always Great, But…

You must have read the one before. This is a sequel and would not make much sense without it. And to get the full affect of the novel one should have read all the Longmire novel to understand the people that are reintroduced to. Having all that knowledge makes it great.

Story
After nine years serving on the staff of a big urban church in Atlanta, Barbara Brown Taylor arrives in rural Clarkesville, Georgia (population 1,500), following her dream to become the pastor of her own small congregation. The adjustment from city life to country dweller is something of a shock - but small-town life offers many of its own unique joys. Taylor has five successful years that see significant growth in the church she serves, but ultimately she finds herself experiencing "compassion fatigue".

I’ve read several things by BBT all very well written as is this. But this doesn’t have the power of Learning to Walk in the Dark. At least not for me, but still worth the time.

Story
Make sure the kids aren’t around! Just because you’re a grown-up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the art of the children’s bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 12 short stories written in the style of a classic kids' tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach. What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. And much more!

I love the progression that has taken place through this series. However, it also keeps new listeners from jumping into this particular volume without knowing the background stories on the main characters. It feels too much like trying to understand an inside joke. Johnson may be shooting himself in the foot.

Dillard's choice of essays was intriguing. Wish she would have explained her choices before each one. It would have been much better if Dillard read the book herself. Present reader would do better with children's story books.

Story
The Overstory unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fable that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An air force loadmaster in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan. An artist inherits 100 years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light.

Solid and Powerful
Reviewed: 08-14-17
What did you love best about Armchair Mystic?
The title can be daunting; however, the subtitle says it all. The book is not only a great introduction into contemplative prayer, it also gives simple and effective exercises while suggesting don't move on until you feel comfortable with this part. It is not a book to rush into or rush through, but a great book to saunter through, taking your time to internalize it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Armchair Mystic?
The illustration of his aunt which was given near the beginning, but was used throughout as an illustration of how we move through the various stages of prayer.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Armchair Mystic?
Several insights not just one: using all forms of prayer as needed.
Any additional comments?
I would suggest this book to anyone who asks about prayer, regardless of their religious or non-religious background. Thibodeaux does a great job relating to all.

Story
How do we fulfill our conflicting duties as father, husband, and son; wife and mother; child and adult? Jew and American? How can we claim our own identities when our lives are linked so closely to others’? These are the questions at the heart of Jonathan Safran Foer’s first novel in eleven years—a work of extraordinary scope and heartbreaking intimacy. Unfolding over four tumultuous weeks in present-day Washington, D.C., Here I Am is the story of a fracturing family in a moment of crisis.
