Story
Kim Miller is an immaculately put-together woman with a great career, a loving boyfriend, and a tidy apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. You would never guess that Kim grew up behind the closed doors of her family’s idyllic Long Island house, navigating between teetering stacks of aging newspapers, broken computers, and boxes upon boxes of unused junk festering in every room - the product of her father’s painful and unending struggle with hoarding. In this moving coming-of-age story, Kim brings to life her rat-infested home and her childhood consumed by concealing her father’s shameful secret from friends.

Story
In 1939, the Germans invaded the town of Lodz, Poland, and moved the Jewish population into a small part of the city called a ghetto. As the war progressed, 270,000 people were forced to settle in the ghetto under impossible conditions. At the end of the war, there were about 800 survivors. Of those who survived, only twelve were children. This is the story of one of the twelve.

Story
Jimmy knows he's different from the other teenagers in Piney Grove, Georgia. He's what people call "slow", which means he doesn't always understand what he sees and hears. But Jimmy sees and hears a lot, even the occasional angel. And Jimmy remembers it all with uncanny accuracy, which is why his lawyer father asks him to testify in a trial. Jimmy's testimony saves the man from jail but has far-reaching consequences for himself and the people he loves.

Story
For most of her life, Crystal McVea was a skeptic whose history of abuse and bad choices made her feel beyond the reach of God - who questioned if God was even real. She had all but given up hope. Then came December 10, 2009...and the moment that changed everything. Crystal doesn't remember the trauma or losing consciousness; she just remembers waking up in heaven, next to God....

worst book of this genre Ive listened to/read
Reviewed: 02-05-14
Would you try another book from Crystal McVea and Alex Tresniowski and/or Crystal McVea?
Probably not. Although a nice and gentle sounding soul, unfortunately one of my pet peeves makes repeated appearances. The mispronunciation of "especially" vs "expecially". Everyone has their own literary peeves, this one grinds on me. The book is essentially an autobiography. The amount of time dedicated to the actual experience is perhaps 5% of the text.
What do you think your next listen will be?
"Thinking in Pictures" by Temple Grandin. Have read it before but wanted to experience it again.
Would you be willing to try another one of Crystal McVea’s performances?
No. See above re: pronunciation concerns.
What character would you cut from Waking Up in Heaven?
I would cut out a lot of what I would call filler. This book needs more substance.
Any additional comments?
Don't waste your money on this one. I love reading about experiences in heaven. This is perhaps the 8thbook I have read on the subject; and isn't in the same league at all. It drug on and on.
