About this listen

In 1939, the Germans invaded the town of Lodz, Poland, and moved the Jewish population into a small part of the city called a ghetto. As the war progressed, 270,000 people were forced to settle in the ghetto under impossible conditions.

At the end of the war, there were about 800 survivors. Of those who survived, only twelve were children. This is the story of one of the twelve.

“A stunning, poetic recreation of a life lived within the horror that was the Holocaust.” (Jane Yolen, author of The Devil’s Arithmetic and Briar Rose)

Heart wrenching

Thank you for sharing your history. This is a heart wrenching history told from the perspective of a child.
While I was taught the general atrocities of the Nazi’s during WWII in school it never opened my eyes as this first hand account has.
I highly recommend this read.

A TOUCHING STORY OF SURVIVAL

What made the experience of listening to Yellow Star the most enjoyable?

Learning of the survival instincts of ordinary people in horrendous circumstances.

What other book might you compare Yellow Star to and why?

It could be compared to The Diary of Ann Frank. Both were stories of children trying to survive the holocaust.

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

The father - he had a calming effect on the whole family.yet he was clever enough to grab opportunities when they came along.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

there were plenty of tear jerking moments, especially when the children were all rounded up and transported. Everyone knew they were on their way to a death camp.

Very worthwhile listen.

This is a short but powerful book relating the memories of very young child surviving six years in the Polish ghetto during WWII. Just a glimpse of a life of fear, starvation, loss and horror that most of us can’t begin to fathom, with the miracle of survival.

Everyone should hear these stories at least once, so we will not forget.

The claims of Naziism and oppression flying around our country are so flagrantly false, yet accepted by those who have not educated themselves about the real Holocost and suffering of so many.

Excellent presentation of very sensitive history

Who could possibly know the true cruelty of those unbelievably inhuman acts that some humans were submitted to without voices from those who lived through the crimes heaped on them? Thank you Sylvia for the view from inside the Ghetto.
