Story
It was supposed to be the highlight of her career, the pinnacle for which she’d worked all her life. And as Hattie McDaniel took the stage in 1940 to claim an honor that would make her the first African-American woman to win an Academy Award, she tearfully took her place in history. Between personal triumphs and tragedies, heartbreaking losses, and severe setbacks, this historic night of winning best supporting actress for her role as the sassy Mammy in the controversial movie Gone With the Wind was going to be life-changing. Or so she thought.

Love Kennedy Ryan
Reviewed: 02-15-23
This was a cute novella. I love Kennedy Ryan she always does great stories. I do have to say I hated the narration. Why have the female do her voice and sometimes the guys voice? This gave the same character two different voices. There were two narrators so he should’ve done the guy and she strictly do the girl. To be hones this kind of thing is what turned me off of audiobooks for years.

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Best Biography I have EVER read!
Reviewed: 12-19-21
This is hands down one of the best biographies I have EVER read. I listened to the audiobook because Will Smith narrates and he does not disappoint. It literally feels like you are having a conversation with Will. He raps, tells jokes, gets serious. This book is so relatable, it will make you laugh, feel nostalgic and just be mindful of those around you and your loved ones. I do want a hardcover version since there are lots of photos in the hardcover, however I would highly recommend getting the audiobook as well just for the experience. Hands down 5 stars! @penguinaudio #biography #biographies #willsmith #will #bookstagram #bookblogger #bookrecommendations #readersofinstagram #reading #audiobooks
