Story
Stephanie Kelton's brilliant exploration of modern monetary theory (MMT) dramatically changes our understanding of how we can best deal with crucial issues ranging from poverty and inequality to creating jobs, expanding health care coverage, climate change, and building resilient infrastructure. Any ambitious proposal, however, inevitably runs into the buzz saw of how to find the money to pay for it, rooted in myths about deficits that are hobbling us as a country.

Decent book, wild ideas
Reviewed: 03-16-21
maybe in a utopian society some of these ideas would work, but she fails to factor in human psychology and political science, which unfortunately drives every decision. I think the government is acting as a currency issuer, not a user but that came before MMT. You're trying to justify their actions into some semi-coherent rants about a federal job gaurentee fixing everything. Interesting enough, not a believer though. I give it a C+

Most Incredible War Account
Reviewed: 01-07-20
of all the war accounts I have read, this is the most incredible. it is unbelievable that the human body can endure such trauma for so long. I think of all the wars throughout history, the Eastern Front of WWII is the most astonishing display of brutality I have ever read about. How someone like Guy is able to return home and continue an ordinary life is unimaginable.

Story
On August 5, 1942, giant pillars of dust rose over the Russian steppe, marking the advance of the 6th Army, an elite German combat unit dispatched by Hitler to capture the industrial city of Stalingrad and press on to the oil fields of Azerbaijan. The Germans were supremely confident; in three years, they had not suffered a single defeat. The Luftwaffe had already bombed the city into ruins. German soldiers hoped to complete their mission and be home in time for Christmas.
