at first I wondered why I chose this book because it seemed like it was about a bunch of snobby, rich women. But then, some substance began to unfold. i began to see that these women had a lot more to their character than I first thought. This is a very good book and well worth the listen.

Story
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

It took me a little while to understand for certain what was happening in this book, but once I did, I became so involved with the characters that I loved them all, even Death. Yhe book takes place during WW2 and it's about a little girl and the people who effect her life. I laughed at times, but I cried more. This book is very much worth listening to and I will listen to it again.

Story
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

This is one of the most outstanding books I have ever read/listened to. The reader knows right from the start that Owen is going to die, we just don't know when or how. After some time, Owen "sees" his death date but nobody believes him. This story is more about the friendship that develops between Owen and the narrator, John. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that this book is about love. It's also a bit political. It's every bit worth the read. i for one will be listening to this again and again.

I absolutely adore Freida McFadden and have listened to many of her books. she always delivers a great read and this one is no different. You think you know what's going on and who is lying to the main character but then something happens to make you wonder. the main character is definately having difficulty knowing who to trust. The ending is unexpected and bone chilling. loved it.

We need to pay very close attention to the message in this book. Who ever would have thought we would have the same things going on in America today by a leader who promises to be a dictator and will impose the "unified reich". like she says in this book, both sides are sure they're right, however it's important to actually listen and hear what's going on in politics and find the truth. i will listen to this book again

Absolutely loved this book. Loved how the twists in both story lines have such similarities and I really liked how you moved back and forth in the timelines, and telling us at the beginning of each timeline what year it is. That's important to do, especially for someone like me, so I don't get confused. I love this book and highly recommend it.
