the world created is awesome, full of amazing characters and details. romance is maybe a bit light, but story is really good overall.

I can't decide if I like it or am too upset by how close this is to the author's other series. Same characters different species. The fmc is always a panicking runner and is all about emotionally relating to the mmcs in an over the top manner.

Here's a tip: don't mess with the demon girl who kills people for a living. The four self-proclaimed kings of Orchid Vale apparently never got that memo, and now my self-care retreat is about to become a bloodbath. This quaint village was supposed to be a break from my hectic life of death, gore, and high stakes "jobs"—that's code for supernatural murder—but I don't get a chance to enjoy even a fairground ride without the kings of Orchid Vale getting in my way.

Nothing worth getting is ever easy. I think that's how the saying goes. I could definitely do with a little easy right now, though it doesn't seem to be in the cards. Surrounded by murder, espionage, and men far too sexy for their own good, every day is a whirlwind. Even my newfound powers may not be enough to help as enemies slither from the shadows. Things with my guys are heating up, and new revelations are on the horizon as we explore each other and try to find our balance in this world. When one of my own is taken from me, I must embrace a side of myself I didn't know existed.

the story is not nearly developed enough to be chopped up. on top of that I'm a firm believer a cliffhanger should only be used after a complete storyline. the book should be in itself whole, but additional plots are hinted at in the book and the cliffhanger is the next books teaser.
