it's obvious this author had a great love of place and it shows through in the story. it's also very well researched and has pace in parts. However the courtroom scenes dragged on and on, with the action better served in a different settings. Onlt lawyers might perhaps appreciate the endless testimony. Still it was a decent read and mostly entertaining.

Overrated and overblown

Everyone raved about this book! While I enjoyed certain parts, I found other parts preachy and overblown especially towards the end. Overall disappointing given all the hoopla and hype - the ending went on and I was so glad when it was over! The author tends to repeat things a lot, which slowed the story down as well.

This is an outstanding book. The writing is authentic and true, just like the characters. Hopefully this author will receive the recognition he deserves. A fiction writer myself I can be tough to please but for me, this book hit the sweet spot between excellent literature and chair-gripping suspense.

While well written and performed this book got worse and more predictable as the story went on. The clearly delineated characters morphed into a blob of over dramatic shrews and one could see plot developments coming from a mile away. So I did myself a favor and bailed about 3/4 of the way through. Hopefully taking one for my fellow readers...buyer beware!

This book was excellently plotted, suspenseful and full of unexpected twists until the end which piled on so many saccharine and predictable resolutions that it almost sank like the Titanic. When will authors realize that less can be more and the subtle art of implication is 100 times more powerful than a screaming over the top end? Nevertheless I enjoyed it... Until the last couple of chapters and three count em three epilogues. What a disappointment when an author assumes the reader's intelligence... Until the last few pages when she WANTS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE GET THE PICTURE . Give us readers a little credit please, We can figure things out for ourselves and what is wrong with leaving a little to the imagination?

The plot was interesting enough to to keep me engagef... Much of the time. Other times it seemed overwrought. The book could have used some serious tightening and shortening but it was OK and mostly entertaining. Narrator was great.

Really enjoyed the story except the very end. Seemed contrived and forced. Wish the author had spent as much time and effort on the end as on the initial plot.

This book made many strong and valid points. When the author wasn't digressing into excessive facts and figures, it was compelling and real. However the narrator's voice was far too old for someone who is supposed to be 50 and because of that it diluted the effectiveness the story and made it seem almost whiny in parts. Yet it is a gripping chronicle of hope and spirituality.
