Story
Biblical womanhood - the belief that God designed women to be submissive wives, virtuous mothers, and joyful homemakers - pervades North American Christianity. From choices about careers to roles in local churches to relationship dynamics, this belief shapes the everyday lives of evangelical women. Yet biblical womanhood isn't biblical, says Baylor University historian Beth Allison Barr. It was born in a series of clearly definable historical moments.

LOVED the second installment of this story!
I thought it moved at a good pace, I was invested in the characters and their growth, and the plot was exciting.
I really liked the first book and was eager to see where the rest of the story would go. I'm so glad it didn't disappoint!

Not a fan of this narrator- not sure why Jennifer Ikeda (who narrated ACOTAR and ACOMAF) didn't read ACOWAR. This one is so campy it makes it hard to listen. I miss so much of the characters' nuance and charm- especially Rhys.

This version of the Bennet family - and Mr. Darcy - is one that you have and haven't met before: Liz is a magazine writer in her late 30s who, like her yoga instructor older sister, Jane, lives in New York City. When their father has a health scare, they return to their childhood home in Cincinnati to help - and discover that the sprawling Tudor they grew up in is crumbling, and the family is in disarray.

Lacks depth
Reviewed: 02-13-19
There was some creative re-imagining of how Pride & Prejudice would look in the modern era (unmarried 30 year olds, unique scenario with "Eligible"), but character depth and development was so lacking that I almost gave up on this one. I can't decide if I couldn't get behind the narrator's whiny presentation and that's what made me feel so turned off, or if the way the characters were written just really made them that unlovable. A good example of why I felt the characters lacked realism/depth was a particular line where Liz describes how one thing she learned from her years working for Mascara was how to apply lipstick starting at the center of your top lip. Really? This is an independent, successful woman living her dream writing for a magazine, and her takeaway is about how to apply lipstick? Not, idk, "act like you belong even if you feel like you don't?" That would have made more sense and been more "in character" for Elizabeth Bennett among the Bingleys and Darcy.
