The performance was interesting to me it was listening to an audiobook/movie/TV episode. Short portions of this book are performed as movie/TV scenes with background noise to intensify the feelings the author wants the reader/listener to feel. It seemed strange at first but it grew on me. The story itself is good and could hold its own without the theatrics.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Story
One sunny August afternoon, the residents of Cedar Close throw their annual summer barbecue. Children play in the cherry-tree lined street, tables are laden with food, and the wine is flowing. For Laurie Mills, it’s her first time meeting the neighbours. And it’s the first time she discovers her husband, Robert, is having an affair. Cedar Close has always been a nice place to live - a quiet suburban street where everyone looks out for one another and bad things don’t happen. Until late one evening, when Robert Mills is found dead in his bedroom.

Bizarrely interesting
Reviewed: 01-30-23
I like the narration the subject is a bit 'icky' I do not want to give anything away but within the first few chapters, you pick up on the possible awareness of the storyline. I originally stopped about a quarter of the way into the book but then came back to it after not finding anything else that I 'could not put down' and finished the book. I continued listening because the plot seemed bizarrely interesting. End of the day it is a novel and easy to listen to and interesting enough.

It seems like the perfect job. Great wages, accommodation provided and all located within the walls of Highwood Hall, a stunning stately home owned by the Howard family. Not many little girls dream of becoming a maid, but this is an opportunity for me to get back on my feet. And for me to revisit my past....

Must Listen
Reviewed: 11-13-22
I listen to 2-3 audiobooks a month and have not been writing reviews for many because although they were okay they were not spectacular. This one is spectacular I listened to it in 3 days never growing impatient with the story or finding any part predictable. I would recommend this to anyone who likes mystery/thriller novels.

When that dream crashed, she turned to stealing from rich kids in LA alongside her wily Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. But when her mom gets sick, Nina puts everything on the line to help her, even if it means running her most audacious, dangerous scam yet.
