Story
July 1985. It’s a normal, sweltering New Jersey summer for soon-to-be seventh grader Bee Kocsis. Her thoughts center only on sunny days spent at Deer Chase Lake, on evenings chasing fireflies around her cul-de-sac with the neighborhood kids, and on Max, the boy who just moved in across the street. There's also the burgeoning worry that she'll never be as special as her younger sister, Audrina, who seems to effortlessly dazzle wherever she goes.

I found this to be a very boring book and I’m annoyed I listened to the whole thing.

Story
In January 2019, culture writer Anne Helen Petersen set the internet on fire with her viral BuzzFeed essay diagnosing “millennial burnout” - a chronic state of stress and exhaustion that’s become a “base temperature” for young people today. Now, she continues this generation-defining conversation in a brand-new format, interviewing millennials around the country about their own deeply personal experiences with burnout, and the culture that creates it.

I can’t handle the narration
Reviewed: 10-23-19
Author/narrator’s speaking cadence is annoying and it sounds like he’s wearing a retainer. You have to be in the mood to listen to a long history story after story.

Story
After the sudden death of her husband, Sheryl Sandberg felt certain that she and her children would never feel pure joy again. "I was in 'the void,'" she writes, "a vast emptiness that fills your heart and lungs and restricts your ability to think or even breathe." Her friend Adam Grant, a psychologist at Wharton, told her there are concrete steps people can take to recover and rebound from life-shattering experiences. We are not born with a fixed amount of resilience. It is a muscle that everyone can build.

good ideas, no research or data to back it up
Reviewed: 11-30-16
The book has some decent concepts and ideas and the author is certainly passionate. The content isn't based on any research or data aside from the authors personal experience. The author admits and makes very apparent that his success is built on persistence and intensity over talent and skills. The book is not terrible but I probably won't be recommending it to my associates and team. Plus the author is a Scientologist which makes it difficult to trust his judgment.
