Brilliant, moving, and deeply paradigm-shifting

This book has fundamentally shifted how I view healing. There were many moments while listening in which I had to rewind and listen again—because Strand’s words so utterly and surprisingly expanded my beliefs about wellness. Surprising, and yet resonant with the ancient knowing of my body. This book is like a fascinating and incredibly eloquently written activation for that knowing, which leaves me feeling like I’ve never been wrong or alone. I’ve always belonged everywhere.

Breathtakingly intimate and unputdownable

As a mother and survivor, I feel like I’ve been waiting so many years for this book. As if through powerful healing magic, Gray’s breathtakingly gorgeous and courageous truth-telling leaves me feeling intimately seen and held in ways I didn’t even know I needed. Proud Flesh weaves such stunning sensuality into each page that my own traumatic experiences feel honored, elevated, and repaired simply through reading it. I seriously could not stop listening. And Gray’s disarmingly sincere, grounded, and intimate narration of her own experiences brought chills and tears. This is one of those magical books that deeply and irrevocably changes you.

As a longtime fan of Prentis Hemphill’s podcast, I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time. What a gift to the world it is. Hemphill has such a unique and beautiful way of opening portals with simple language. Portals that take the listener into new realms of possibility. Spaces open to create what we never thought was possible. Softness where we have only felt rigidity. I treasure this book and am deeply moved and changed. A masterpiece of remembering

My heart is changed because of The Madonna Secret. Though there are no words that do justice to this shift, I now breathe into roots that weave deeply into fertile soil. As a woman, and as a mother. My eyes are new prisms into a world that hums with aliveness. No, not new. I felt this as a child in every cell of my body. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this precious remembering.
