Story
When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has . . . Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere. Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway.

Totally solid LitRPG. Negative reviews are overstated.

Great and unique storyline. Well built characters. Very creative way to get powers!

I really liked this book and the performance by Podehl is great with 1 exception... the way named abilities, spells and classes are so obviously added in by a prerecorded 'canned recording' drove me bonkers through the entire book. Towards the end especially during some pretty serious moments, having HERO shouted in a totally different timbre really broke the mood.
I'm onto book 2! I hope this doesn't continue there.

I've been hooked since book 1

great story, world and character building. My only issue is with the editing. there were at least 3 times where a few lines repeated themselves, like a bad splice.

Story
Farleigh is just an orphanage–at least, that's what the church would have the people believe. But beautiful orphans Nox and fae-touched Amaris know better. They are commodities for sale, available for purchase by the highest bidder. So when the madame of a notorious brothel in a far-off city offers a king's ransom to purchase Amaris, Nox ends up taking her place—while Amaris is drawn away to the mountains, home of mysterious assassins.

Absolutely loved this book!

The characters have great depth and the story is very fluid. I can't believe this is Piper's first novel. I can't wait for the next!

great story, unnecessary smut
Reviewed: 03-06-22
The overall story was great, but the 'sex' scenes added nothing to the story and were quite cringy. overuse of "rooster" was annoying and made me think I was reading a smut book for a middle-aged woman in need of a man in her life...
Elizabeth Evan's reading was great for female roles, but made every male sound like a slimy car salesman, especially Micah.
I'll still read the rest though as I'm curious to see how this all turns out.
P.S. I love Lahabah and her voice was perfect!
