Publisher's summary

In addition to strength, steel, and courage, a hero discovers he's in need of a friend, in the first installment of a daring and dangerous fantasy adventure.

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has . . . Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere.

Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway. Naturally, Daniel is classified as a "hero," while Orrin is—also naturally—relegated to the fantasy equivalent of "bleh." Nothing new there.

But in this realm populated with lethal foes both inhuman and inescapable, sticking together matters more than ever, and soon Daniel and Orrin will discover more about themselves—and each other—than either one thought possible. In fact, Orrin just might find the confidence and strength to become something other than your average sidekick . . .

The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than 600,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

The Random Robotuc Voice

this book has so much potential. the plot was not greatly unique but it was a good read. I do not think I will read the second one,al as I had to take breaks from this 1 read. I had difficulty falling I to this fantasy world as the narrator used and was allowed to publish this audio with them constantly saying "hero" and all the action prompt in a robotic voice. although I have heard this voice being used during Stat reading in other books, this book does it EVERY TIME THE WORD IS SAID!

Great story, annoying skill narration

Both the Author and Narrator did wonderfully in bringing this audiobook into being. One prominent flaw which took Nick's performance from a 5 to a 3 is the copy paste insertion of monotone skill, ability, and class names mid conversation. Honestly, if the original audio were not edited to include this poor decision, the book would have gotten a solid 5

The Robot voice sucks

The main story itself was pretty good, a typical isekai book. The main problem is the narration. for some reason every class and skill name is given a robot voice. like if he was reading a description or a status page it would be fine, but in a middle of a conversation it's jarring. For example one MC would take like "we need to hide your a [HERO] since they can use [INVESTIGATION] to see your [HERO] class".

A fantastic LitRPG with only one flaw.

I’ve listened to over two hundred LitRPG / fantasy audiobooks and I have to say this easily ranks in my top 10 favorites.

Development

Great story and deep connections to the characters is what stood out to me. It gave it a “I’m there” feeling

Can’t wait for more HERO business

Honestly it’s a little jarring to hear the class or skill announced as they are. Hopefully it’s something that can get toned down more.

Although the story is fantastic.

To much yelling

For me it takes away the random yelling that goes on through out the book.

bad choices

the person who decided every italicized word should be read in robot shout voice should be removed and sued for incompetence. "I'm going to sneak over and use IDENTIFY."

the reviews are not wrong

I hesitated to listen to this due to the reviews all talking about how each "system" name was read differently. it was VERY distracting. It's not something I was able to get used to. the story itself was good. There were a few times where the author felt more clever in their writing than I would have given credit for. I enjoyed though and will probably listen to it again before the second book releases.
