Story
It's 2524. Harvest is a peaceful, prosperous farming colony on the very edge of human-controlled space. But humanity has unknowingly trespassed on holy ground - straying into the path of the aggressive, theocratic empire known as the Covenant. What begins as a chance encounter between an alien privateer and a human freighter soon catapults all of mankind into a struggle for its very existence. But humanity is also currently locked in a bitter civil war of its own: the Insurrection.

Probably my favorite sci-fi novel to date
Reviewed: 07-09-21
Incredibly well thought out in terms of how to accurately depict the visual and technical features of future technologies
Wonderfully colorful array of characters
Both an entertaining and believable dive into hypothetical inter-species relations
My work forces me to use audiobooks to get any reading done so there are some limitations in regard to narration in general, but they did a great job on this one too. Will likely buy a hard copy of this one to reread.
PS The more halo I read the more I fall in love with the unggoy 😭

It was an undeniably orky experience, of that there is no doubt. But there just needed to be less from the admech point of view. It’s nice to have context for the plot and thus bringing weight to the destructive actions of the orks, but I found myself getting frustrated when confronted by multiple full (and lengthy) chapters of monotone and droning dialogue in a book that’s supposed to be about krumpin’ da humies. With that said, the sections dedicated to the orks are incredibly fun and I really hope they do more of this style of book. Highly recommend for any true git.

It's 2535. It is the first, desperate days of the Human-Covenant War, and the United Nations Space Command has enacted “the Cole Protocol” to safeguard Earth and its inner colonies from discovery by its merciless alien foe. Many are called upon to rid the galaxy of lingering navigation data that could potentially reveal the location of Earth and ensure the destruction of humanity.

Performance and story are above average, but there are occasional hiccups in recording. Makes it seem like sentences are lost.

One of my all-time favorite novels. An underrated classic and an invaluable commentary on the human condition. A philosopher’s parody of Beowulf and nihilism.
