Story
The scene in the West Village studio appears to be classic crime-of-passion: two wineglasses by the bed, music playing, and a young sculptor named Ariel Byrd with the back of her head bashed in. But when Dallas tracks down the wealthy Upper East Side woman who called 911, the details don’t add up. Gwen Huffman is wealthy, elegant, comforted by her handsome fiancé as she sheds tears over the trauma of finding the body - but why did it take an hour to report it? And why is she lying about little things?

Devastatingly Disappointed
Reviewed: 07-19-22
I have followed the series since day 1. I fell in love with all JD’s characters. I have come to root for and cry with them over the years as Nora Roberts is most notably a talented writer, but I will no longer spend a dime on any more of her books. Additionally, I will no longer be following this series.
Everyone is allowed to have their opinions, but to find her political commentary in a piece of literary fiction was quite shocking. As a reader, I do not care what the writer’s political leaning are, I care for their story and continue to invest in them only in accordance to the merit of their storytelling.
She lumped a varied and widely diverse group of people into a “white male”/suprematism category, grouped those of (today’s) differing and diverse stances into one “cult” that she called in the book “natural order”, and then proceeded to use nuanced and diverse political issues and simplified it all as “bigot” and “bat sh*t crazy”.
***To be truly wise is to learn from every single person.***
To place current day political commentary from the author with her overt opinions tinged with moral judgment was distasteful in my estimation.
As simplifying complex issues, stances, and diverse groups of today and labeling them with moral equivalency is not what I read fiction for.
She is an extremely talented writer. I am sorry to have to abandon the series.

Narration is AWFUL
Reviewed: 06-25-21
I generally like the content of the book, but found the stories to be a bit much as I was looking for something more informative.
But that being said… it’s truly amazing that I’ve gotten as far as I have in this book because the narration is horrific at best. The stories are emotional and moving but the robotic and monotone narration of them makes them lose the immense amount of emotion. Its so disappointing and extremely distracting.

Story
A mysterious amulet leads Fallon to everything she’s ever wanted...and possibly her death. After a lifetime with no knowledge of her parents, troubled 17-year-old Fallon Webb receives a necklace once belonging to her mother. The amulet leads her on a life-changing journey through a portal to a foreign land where she encounters unusual creatures, shape-shifters, and something she’s always longed for - family. In Ariboslia, Fallon learns her mother is alive. Vampire-like creatures have her, and many others, captive. Most distressing is the prophecy that devastated her family.

Story
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

I just want to delete this title from my library. It was awful and did not bring me any joy in the reading. Zero entertainment factor for me. Still want to delete from my library.

Instead of reading book 10, I chose three different titles. All three of which I returned. They were certainly not of the caliber of Charlene Harris and her Sookie Stackhouse series!!
Do you not believe all of the critics!! If you enjoyed all the other books, you will enjoy this one!!!!
