Story
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Vulnerability at Its Best

Her story is raw. Her honesty, refreshing. Her performance, stellar. Her journey so vastly different from mine, yet her core desire to be known fully from the inside out and the outside in, relatable in the deepest sense. I learned about her. I learned about myself. Memoir at its best!

Story
When Christian singer and speaker Staci Frenes learned her teenage daughter was gay, she found her dreams for the future - along with her lifelong faith - collapsing around her. Coming to terms with a new reality was a challenge - and an invitation - to make room for many things along the way: the inevitability of uncertainty, hope in the midst of loss, awkward and tough conversations, an expanding faith, and a greater understanding of how people are more the same than different.

A Beautifully Told Story for All

Staci’s story takes us into the trenches of the heart, mind, and soul. No matter where you land regarding your interpretation of scripture regarding the issue of homosexuality, Staci’s story takes us for a walk in her shoes and gently guides us to consider challenging questions as we process, “What if this were my child, a friend’s child who I love, or anyone’s child in whom I’m called to love?” And in that regard, Staci’s story belongs to all of us.

Story
Where the Light Fell is a gripping family narrative set against a turbulent time in post-World War II America, shaped by the collision of Southern fundamentalism with the mounting pressures of the civil rights movement and '60s-era forces of social change. In piecing together his fragmented personal history and his search for redemption, Yancey gives testament to the enduring power of our hunger for truth and the possibility of faith rooted in grace instead of fear.

Beautiful writing! I laughed, cried, and cringed. Yancey gave me words and imagery that cast a clarifying light on my own story. Memoir at its best. I’m grateful!
