Like the title says, I thought I had it figured out. I thought I knew who done it all for the author to rip it away! This was a wonderful read. I enjoyed it very much if you like mystery you’ll probably love this.

Story
Liz Rocher is coming home . . . reluctantly. As a Black woman, Liz doesn’t exactly have fond memories of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a predominantly white town. But her best friend is getting married, so she braces herself for a weekend of awkward, passive-aggressive reunions. Liz has grown, though; she can handle whatever awaits her. But on the night of the wedding, somewhere between dancing and dessert, the newlyweds’ daughter, Caroline, disappears—and the only thing left behind is a piece of white fabric covered in blood.

Boring
Reviewed: 11-17-23
I really tried to give this short story I chance. I honestly had to force myself to finish it. No suspense nor mystery. The “twist” is so in your face there was nothing to hold you on really. I wouldn’t waste my time reading. The narrator didn’t help at all

Tried Something New

I was hesitant to read this book because this isn’t the genre I usually get but I’m glad I did. It had good suspense that kept me tied to the book. I can honestly say I didn’t expect the ending but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Story
Josephine Thomas has heard every conceivable theory about her mother's disappearance. That she was kidnapped. Murdered. That she took on a new identity to start a new family. That she was a witch. This is the most worrying charge because in a world where witches are real, peculiar behavior raises suspicions and a woman—especially a Black woman—can find herself on trial for witchcraft.

Not for me
Reviewed: 11-02-23
While the performance of this book was great, I really didn’t like the story. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m more of a crime, thriller, kind of person but this book just didn’t do it for me. It was super slow and there wasn’t much action. it took weeks for me to finish this book because I was so bored

In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.
