About this listen
“The pages turn themselves” (People) in this white-knuckled mystery following a woman on the search for answers a decade after her friend’s murder from #1 New York Times bestselling author Ruth Ware.
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford.
Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.
Now, a decade later, Hannah and Will are expecting their first child, and the man convicted of killing April, former Oxford porter John Neville, has died in prison. Relieved to have finally put the past behind her, Hannah’s world is rocked when a young journalist comes knocking and presents new evidence that Neville may have been innocent. As Hannah reconnects with old friends and delves deeper into the mystery of April’s death, she realizes that the friends she thought she knew all have something to hide…including a murder.
“The Agatha Christie of our generation” (David Baldacci, #1 New York Times bestselling author) presents a “deliciously dark and utterly addictive” (Lucy Foley, New York Times bestselling author) mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Getting snowed in at a luxurious, rustic ski chalet high in the French Alps doesn’t sound like the worst problem in the world. Especially when there’s a breathtaking vista, a full-service chef and housekeeper, a cozy fire to keep you warm, and others to keep you company. Unless that company happens to be eight coworkers…each with something to gain, something to lose, and something to hide.

Story
Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first Lo's stay is nothing but pleasant: The cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, and gray skies fall.

Good Beach Read
The first half is a slog through the mud of character development , a struggle to get to the good part which you know is coming. The second half is a jog to the twist ending which you know is guaranteed by Ruth Ware.

Always know the killer hours before the heroine
Hours and hours. Author tried to make you sympathetic to s psychopath after they did whatever to a man character(no spoilers…kinda) I just am routinely surprised by how obvious who did it Is in this authors books and by how completely stupid the main character is and how long it takes her to realize what’s been happening.

Hannah’s voice
I enjoyed the book and rated it highly, but the narrator (who is very good) gave Hannah a weak, quivering voice that irritated me throughout the listen. Hannah came across as a whining, meek mess and I wonder if the author meant her character to be that way. After all, Hannah ended up being the strongest person of the story - at least morally speaking. I get that she’s supposed to be unsure with her suspicions, but at times the voice made me dislike Hannah. I think if I’d read the book I would have been more in Hannah’s corner. Overall though - great story!

Meh
Anyone else feel like Hannah was just irrationally selfish in this one? Her attitude about the fact that her husband didn’t want his pregnant wife poking around was way overblown. What husband WOULDN’T want that? Especially after the blood pressure scare? Not the best by Ruth/Imogen. I love them both dearly but….

Where were the police?
This was not a work of art, but was entertaining while it lasted. My biggest criticism is: What kind of police department investigated this murder!?! But in the end, the book was not an unpleasant way to pass a few hours.
