Addition of male narrator...BAD idea
Reviewed: 12-07-23
I've highly enjoyed this series and the world that Stephanie Garber has created. I appreciate a love story with substance! Thank you!
My only negative comments are for the change in the narration from books 1 & 2. Rebecca Soler as the sole narrator of book 1 & 2 was perfect and I loved her performance in bringing this world to life. But book 3 has the addition of Dan Bittner narrating chapters for Apollo and Jacks.....ugh....I CRINGE every time he starts speaking. It's like he never listened to Rebecca's previous narrations to even TRY to match what she had done for these characters. It's so confusing and unfortunately ruined the world that Rebecca's performance brought to life. Dan's narration is comical and overly dramatized and extremely distracting. It's like I'm listening to two different stories.
In the future, PLEASE keep the same narrator throughout the entire series. Highly disappointment in the performance change on this one.

Warning - new narrator from 1st book!
Reviewed: 05-05-23
I really enjoyed listening to the 1st book in this series with Emma Powell as the narrator. Like others have commented, I was disappointed that the narration was done by a new actor on this book and all books in the remainder of the series, it seems. Nothing against Marian Hussey, but it was disappointing to get to know all the characters in the first book with Emma's Powell's narration (which I much preferred) and then having to get to know them all over again through Marian Hussey...her nuances are different and the characters appear more whiney and dramatic.
The story itself is brilliant and entertaining, but the new narration is distracting. Just a heads up if you're someone that gets attached to narrators throughout a series like I do.

Story
Seventeen-year-old Aderyn ("Ryn") only cares about two things: her family and her family's graveyard. And right now, both are in dire straits. Since the death of their parents, Ryn and her siblings have been scraping together a meager existence as gravediggers in the remote village of Colbren, which sits at the foot of a harsh and deadly mountain range that was once home to the fae. The problem with being a gravedigger in Colbren, though, is that the dead don't always stay dead.

I couldn’t follow nor did I find myself wanting to. Confusing story that jumps around and doesn’t clarify or connect.

Any additional comments?
Love this book and this series! The only thing that I had trouble with is the narrator's American accent. TERRIBLE! But otherwise, the narrator is charming and I really enjoyed her. The story is a fun escape!

Story
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.
