Story
In these 10 eye-opening lectures by a practicing doctor and medical educator, you’ll walk through a series of medical mystery cases ripped from history and involving well-known historical figures whose identities are nevertheless hidden from you. Every one of these cases requires you to use your detective skills to identify and diagnose the mystery patient just like the doctors that attended them. In the process, you’ll learn fascinating insights into medicine: both the medicine that was practiced thousands of years ago and the medicine doctors practice today.

LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!
Reviewed: 03-09-22
My favorite books are those about medical mysteries & this book is precisely that. The stories had so many interesting tidbits of information & I enjoyed trying to figure out who it was about as well as the diagnosis (or, in some cases, the suspected diagnosis since the true diagnosis has been lost in time). I thought the narrator did a great job. Despite the fact there were several instances I could hear him swallowing (something that drives me nuts and often forces me to stop listening) I was able to overlook it because the story itself was so enthralling. Bottom line: if you enjoy books about mystery diseases & diagnosis and/or history & historical figures this is the book for you. I feel sad this book is over which serves as proof that this book is fantastic! Highly, HIGHLY recommend!

Story
A gleefully gruesome look at the actual science behind the most outlandish, cartoonish, and impossible deaths you can imagine. What would happen if you took a swim outside a deep-sea submarine wearing only a swimsuit? How long could you last if you stood on the surface of the sun? How far could you actually get in digging a hole to China? Paul Doherty, senior staff scientist at San Francisco's famed Exploratorium Museum, and writer Cody Cassidy explore the real science behind these and other fantastical scenarios.

Great book full of fascinating facts & laughs!

I absolutely LOVED this book! I chose it because I needed something new to listen to during my commute. It seemed fairly interesting but I honestly wasn't expecting much. Boy, was I wrong! This book is chock full of fascinating facts and information. My mind was blown at least once during each chapter. Each chapter postulates a wildly odd/unlikely scenario and then proceeds to break down what we could expect to happen using scientific facts and data. While it's a very scientific book overall, it's sprinkled with loads of sarcasm which is right up my alley. I certainly didn't expect so many LOL moments. I highly recommend this book if you're looking to learn random, fascinating facts and get a good laugh while you do it. It was a PHENOMENAL ride and I'm so sad it's over.

I had heard so much hype surrounding this book that eventually I had to try it and see if it was true. Much to my pleasant surprise, the hype was LEGIT. This book really and truly touched me in a way no book ever has. Ms. Hollis has written a beautifully empowering book for women in all walks of life. I love that she narrated it herself because it completes the authenticity. She communicates her message the way she intended it. Most chapters made me chuckle and some chapters had me in tears having touched the deepest corners of my soul. The magic of this book is that Ms. Hollis writes about themes that are mostly universal for all women. Because of this listening to this book feels like you're listening to a really good friend. I highly recommend this book to all women. I found the cliche to be true: LIFE CHANGING!
