Best book I’ve listened to in a while!
Reviewed: 09-04-23
I love all things Deep South and this did not disappoint. The story of a family trying to make it in this world and sometimes failing miserably. Abuse, love, family bonds. This book has it all and it’s told in such a beautiful way. I felt privileged to hear this story. And I walked away feeling like maybe things will be ok in my own family.

No self-respecting lady would allow herself to end up in Sarah Booth's situation. Unwed, unemployed, and over 30, she's flat broke and about to lose the family plantation. Not to mention being haunted by the ghost of her great-great-grandmother's nanny, who never misses an opportunity to remind her of her sorry state.

Being from Louisiana…
Reviewed: 06-02-23
This book is so bad. I’m from Louisiana so I thought it might be a good one. Nope. The story is lacking. Lacking everything a good cozy mystery should have and the characters are unbelievable. Like the author slapped it together and then put a little Louisiana bow around it and tried to sell it. If you want to love it then bless your little heart.

Another day, another dead body. It's all in a day of the life of Salem Grimes. Salem Grimes figures even a God who works in mysterious ways wouldn’t resort to a dead body in a dumpster in answer to Salem’s prayers to help her stay on her diet - excuse me - strat-eat-gic plan. But a dead body in a dumpster it is, and now Salem and Viv, her octogenarian partner-in-crime-solving, are on the case once again.

When Salem Grimes stumbles onto a dead body on her way to an AA meeting, she does what any self-respecting Christian would do - freaks out and screeches words that would make Jesus blush. However, learning her ex-husband, Tony, stands accused of the murder spurs Salem into action. Eager to help, she makes the bold decision to investigate the case as an amateur sleuth. What she lacks in skills, qualifications, or a general clue on how to find, well, clues, she makes up for with the genuine desire to help.

Story
Before he became the nation's favourite Mammy, Brendan O'Carroll was known, simply as Brendan. He's the youngest of eleven children from a poor family in Dublin, he's a boy whose father died when he was just nine years old; he's someone whose hope and determination meant he never gave up. Throughout the tough moments, Brendan always had humour and a good story to tell alongside the ever-guiding inspiration of his own Mammy, a formidable figure who became Ireland's first female Labour MP, all whilst raising eleven children by herself.
