Story
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

One of the best audio books I've listened to. Skolnick and Goggins went way above and beyond in terms of their performance while reading this book. After you finish it, you will think to yourself, "well, of course they did".

Story
Authors Womack, Jones, and Roos provided a comprehensive description of the entire lean system. They exhaustively documented its advantages over the mass production model pioneered by General Motors and predicted that lean production would eventually triumph. Indeed, they argued that it would triumph not just in manufacturing but in every value-creating activity from health care to retail to distribution.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Story
The retired four-star general and and best-selling author of My Share of the Task shares a powerful new leadership model. Former General Stanley McChrystal held a key position for much of the War on Terror, as head of the Joint Special Operations Command. In Iraq, he found that despite the vastly superior resources, manpower, and training of the US Military, Al Qaeda had an advantage because of its structure as a loose network of small, independent cells. To defeat such an agile enemy, JSOC had to change its focus from efficiency to adaptability.

You may know W. Kamau Bell from his new Emmy-nominated hit show on CNN, United Shades of America. Or maybe you've read about him in The New York Times, which called him "the most promising new talent in political comedy in many years." Or maybe from The New Yorker fawning over his brand of humor writing: "Bell's gimmick is intersectional progressivism: he treats racial, gay, and women's issues as inseparable."

This is an updated version of the book that accurately predicted the global stock market crash of 2008, the bursting of the real estate bubble, and Ben Bernanke's unprecedented overreaction via quantitative easing programs. First published in 2008, the book quickly became a best seller not just for its timely insight into precious metals investment but for its amazingly accurate prediction of a "roller-coaster crash"—the manipulated whipsaw between inflation, deflation, and back again.

Good narration by the actual author. That makes this book an easy listen. Has a bit of an apocalyptic feel at the end, but I think all precious metals authors suffer from a little bit of a bunker mentality. Overall, this is a helpful book if you are trying to learn the basics of this investment class and how to diversify your cash and cash equivalent holdings.

Poor narration
Reviewed: 05-16-21
Poor narration. Poor tempo, poor pronunciation, poor emotion. There were many times where I questioned if this book was actually narrated by a person and might actually be a computer generated narration. This makes the technical content of this book very difficult to follow.
Edit: It's narrated by a person for sure. There were several spots where the narrator is so bored with reading the book that he signs, groans, and appears to struggle to stay awake. I'm giving up and moving on to another book. I actually like these types of books, but the audio version is intolerable for me. If you're shopping, keep scrolling.

In Hot Seat, Immelt offers a rigorous and raw interrogation of himself and his tenure, detailing for the first time his proudest moments and his biggest mistakes. The most crucial component of leadership, he writes, is the willingness to make decisions. But knowing what to do is a thousand times easier than knowing when to do it. Perseverance, combined with clear communication, can ensure progress, if not perfection, he says.

I'm not here to review or judge the contents of this book. I've noticed a general decline in audible narration over the past year or so, so I'm just reviewing the narrations.
The narration in this book was very good. It was definitely a person narrating it. Good emotion, good inflection, good tempo, and good pronunciation. You won't be disappointed by the narration.
