Where to begin
Reviewed: 04-16-25
First and foremost, the audio is horrendous. I’m pretty sure it was recorded in a bathroom, it’s very tin-y.
This book started out great. No, not great, there are issues but I was overlooking them because I adored our FC. I kept thinking “omg are we getting a competent, strong, relatable and age appropriate FC women can actually relate to? And not a barely legal wallflower princess assassin just discovering her magic that she doesn’t know how to use????” I was amazed and instantly was going to rate 5 stars. However, Chapter 16 happened and I don’t understand what’s going on. If you know, you know. 😭
Here’s my biggest gripes with this book:
❌- 90% of this book is inner monologue. Seriously, there is barely any interactions between characters. It’s all in the head.
❌- Time flows weirdly and I think it’s because this author doesn’t know how to write it out. You read about something happening that spans days and you only get small details when it’s something significant.
❌- There is way too many times where the writing contradicts itself, sometimes by sentence/paragraph/page/chapters.
❌- The FC does a complete 180 in characteristics at the end of chapter 15-16. It’s not the same person. At all.
❌- Why would you, a shifter, send in a DNA test? That seems dumb. Then when she gets it back, it says she’s a different type of shifter breed. So was it like a shifter DNA company? This really irritated me and it lives rent free in my head.
❌- the MC heard FCs thoughts but during her inner monologue, she claims she heard his thoughts when that never happened. Then later, she described him reading her thoughts and brought up she can read his like she didn’t just say she already did the last paragraph. Like it’s news to us.
❌- Lastly, my biggest issue is the books description. There are TRIGGER WARNINGS that are meant to warn readers of something that could possibly trigger them. However, none of what was described actually happened. There is no kidnapping or anything. In fact, this is a very PG book, there’s no kissing at all. Everything happens off page. We don’t even know how hard it is to shift because it’s not fully described. Anyways, if you’re reading it based on those warnings, you’ll be very disappointed.
Overall, very mediocre not even 1 star read. Sorry not sorry. 🤷♀️
Let me add a few emojis in hopes my review doesn’t get deleted. Please ignore lol

3 stars that should’ve been 5, but it’s 3
Reviewed: 03-24-25
I’m going to take the time to write a coherent review because this deserves it and honestly this book was very much needed in a very long slump I’ve been in. But even so, it still grinded my gears and wasn’t perfect. Sigh… I don’t think we’ll ever get a perfect book again and that makes me really sad. Even so, this author tried and I appreciate that to no end.
I enjoyed a lot of this book, story, and characters, but oh sweet baby Jesus I hated the overdone, WAAAAY too long, descriptions of scenes for the tiniest minuscule of action(s) that nearly had me DNFing. Which was REALLY FRUSTRATING when I was caught up in a scene and would think “ok I just need to skip this part”. Seriously why the use of so much flowery language for nothing but filler?!? If the filler was a physical person, it’d look like one of the Kardashians but without photoshop or makeup. Ie completely overdone. And every single damn time it happened, it made me physically cringe and roll my eyes. ROLL MY EYES. Do you know how dumb that is? Who rolls their eyes. Me, I did, consciously too. 🙄
I love love love the FC and the way she would tease the MC was such a breath of fresh air from the typical blushing stumbling MarySue’s in every other book, so it’s an appreciated and very welcome change I desperately needed. I would get completely lost in their teasing. It was so cute and fresh.
But then you get that wordy PAGE (not even a paragraph, a full friggin page in 11 point font) that could’ve been summed up in one friggin sentence all to describe the taste of water. 😭 no matter how you word it or dump glitter on it, it’s still smelly poop. So just call it for what it is??
I literally kept yelling to an empty car in the middle of traffic on my commute to work like a crazy person to GET TO THE POINT. I’ve come to learn that this is just how the author writes, because I’ve felt the same exact way reading her other book(s). Notably the “Unmarked” series, which side note nearly put me off on this author FOREVER because that series was atrocious. One could hope and pray she hires a different editor. Preferably someone she doesn’t personally know and, you know, someone unrelated to her….. 👍 🫠
It sucks because I WANT to give this 5 stars. Shit even 4 stars because it feels like it SHOULD BE RATED HIGH. I loved the music and how it fit the scene it’s tied to. You can tell this author knows how to write and really tries to hypnotize her audience! But the distracting writing, even when mixed in with the really really good writing, just ruins it for me! 😡

A very painful and cringey experience
Reviewed: 02-03-25
Oof the short amount of time I wasted reading up to chapter 14 was extremely painful. 😖 Seriously how could anyone give this 5 stars? Another conspiracy I tell you. Because this should not be rated the same as other literature masterpieces. That’s soooooo wrong! 😑
Our main FC is an emotional angry brat who thinks everything she sees is beautiful. Seriously, up to where I DNf at Ch. 14, she has used “beautiful” to describe anything around her around 100 times, maybe more. From floors, to flowers, to eyes, to men, to hair, to clothes, EVERYTHING. That’s the only descriptive word she has in her vocabulary.
The narrator also likes to insert random internal monologues in italic, but only sometimes not all the time. That’s the only way I can describe it.
Our girl FC blew up at an angel because he helped her feel better. You see, she has red hair, so she’s very very angry and keen to emotional outbursts at random times. That’s the stereotype our author here likes to use. And she would be having a normal conversation then suddenly blow up at something so small, and yet everyone and their cousin loved and adored her. She’s so cute. She’s so small. She’s so tiny. She’s so innocent. 😇 and our MC can think of better ways she can use that mouth of hers, amirite 😏
Speaking of our MC, he’s written as your stereotypical “guy who thinks he’s so tough so he crosses his muscley arms to stare you down” type. But really it comes off as a 16 year old boy trying to convince his parents he’s a man. 🧍♂️ He loves to whisk our angry FC away to fields of lavenders or whatever so she can call them beautiful because his eyes are lavender and so beautiful 🤩 So romantic.
I didn’t even get to the sex scenes and honestly I don’t think I want to cringe anymore than I have at this writing.

Story
Kalia Salam is a Voyant, or a person with the ability to create mind-altering visions and project them into others. But when the punishment for having that ability is death, every decision becomes a strategic calculation to avoid execution. Unfortunately, that includes tethering herself to the continent's most wealthy brothel owner and only using her magic to pad the madam's pockets. That is, at least, until she needs it to protect those around her.

It was ok up until that very eye rolling end. It was a bit cringy. Like the author grew up on too many Disney movies with the whole “with our power of love and friendship we can defeat anything!”.

The book description does not mention this is an arranged marriage story. Where the father sells his 5 day old newborn daughter to an immortal king. Who comes for her barely after she turns 18. It also fails to mention how TSTL she is. This story has been told so many times I’m just done with it.

Story
Immortality sucks. Just ask Imogen Gray: Over two-hundred thousand years old and teetering on the edge of total insanity. Strong as a shifter, faster than a vampire, Imogen's walked the earth forever, always alone, never growing, never changing. Never learning, either. Her smart mouth and quick temper get her into trouble far too often. When that happens, she gets hurt—and it can take a long time to heal from severed limbs and disembowelment. She's so tired of it all.

Unlike so many books flooded online today, when the MC has the FC followed and the FC got kidnapped, she said “I would be angry if you DIDNT have someone follow me”.
Do you know how refreshing that is??? That alone makes this series 5 stars.
Narration isn’t that great, but it’s not bad. Once you get used to it, you forget how bad it is 🤭

Working as an investigator for the supernatural elite means living by three simple rules: don’t ruffle feathers, keep the clients (vampires, shifters, witches, etc.) happy, and never give them a reason to want you dead. Simple. Unfortunately, Tessa Graves just can’t seem to follow the rules. And that’s why 300 bloodthirsty wolf shifters are hot on her trail.

I was really into the book before chapter 7, where I had to stop because the similarities to twilight was more than I am comfortable with (minus sparkling vampires of course). 🤪
You have a centuries year old VAMPIRE going to high school. Lol that’s actually laughable. And there is no reason why she was going to high school. The author didn’t provide one. 🤦♀️
🚩🚩🚩 She makes friends with girls hundreds of years younger than her. I sure hope she wasn’t dating high school boys because that’s a HUGE red flag. I wouldn’t stand for it if it were an immortal man with a teen girl. I sure won’t stand for it with the roles reversed. 🚩🚩🚩
Young adult book, including the suspending of anything remotely trying to make sense. We’re just told this is how it is, without any reason why it is. Which is why I don’t read Young Adult books. And yet, audible, Amazon, GoodReads never label books correctly. 😢
