Burke is a masterful writer, creating pictures that stay with you.
His people are tough, real and complex. His villains are bad and his heroes carry enough baggage to give pause, but have enough compassion to soften hearts.
Patton’s narration is rare and hard-boiled and addicting, bringing life to the story beyond expectations.

It’s an acceptable mystery, but not thrilling.
I wouldn’t run to the other books. A little too bland and AI drains it if the emotion it could have.

A thoroughly entertaining and engaging story. Moyes is a talented writer and storyteller.
We loved this 3rd book the most.
We still find the narration a bit difficult to understand—being American, but it was better than book 2.
We will find more from this author.

It took longer to engage with Lou this time for two reasons: we missed the interaction between Will and Lou, and the biggest reason is the difficult narration. For some reason she kind of whispers, making it hard to hear and making replay necessary too often.
The story picks up about halfway through and by the end we were glad we stuck with it.

Twists and turns
Reviewed: 03-02-25
The AI narration is so bad it’s hard to give this the solid 4 stars a human narrator would have gained this author.
Navigating all the characters and the complex plot could have been fun. But when every character has a female voice and the very annoying, emotionless sing song-y performance makes listening a chore, it just gets tedious.
Pronunciations and sentence structure become choppy and incorrect.
Sorry, just too much work

The story is complex and works its way through its characters and several plot lines to a cohesive and interesting story.
We like the characters and, after learning to keep them straight midway through, decided they were all necessary.
Virtual narration had a way to go. It would be helpful to have both male and female voices. But this AI was better than some. It breaks down in consistency of pronunciation and nuances of emotion.
All in all enjoyable. Wish i had Book One.

Good story, irritating narration
Reviewed: 02-20-25
I enjoyed the story which was well-written and entertaining. But the virtual narration was so bad it made the experience less than positive.
Not only did the AI have only a female voice, making it crazy/making to keep the characters straight, but the strong emotions came across as robotic, the pronunciations were inconsistent and the story became choppy with accents in the wrong places. Speaking of accents, why didn’t the AI have a southern drawl?
Note to author: your writing is too good to economize on the performance.
