To much whining in the narrators voice
Reviewed: 06-15-25
The 1st book was amazing. It opened with a totally different prospective to an EMP. That was refreshing. Also, adding the Great Pyrenees to the story was perfect. Most don't add animals to the story line.
By book two I was getting irritated and could not figure out why. Took long enough, but I finally figured it out-It was the whining of the narrator as she read through the male voices. The constant whining of her voice distracted from the story. That coupled with the writer repeating her words with each character. We already know the foundation of the characters and what they endured. No need to repeat over and over again.

This book was disturbing. I just had a tough time getting into the theme of the book. Not even as fiction. Oh, it is a reminder of Red Dawn, but worse. This is America. America!
In saying all that it was well written. Enough to make me upset. :)

Story
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

The answer to your question is YES!
Reviewed: 04-06-25
Yes, this book is worth the listen. The author does a fantastic job at keeping the reader engaged and always guessing.
The twists and turns keep you on your toes and just when you think you just might have a clue you get whiplash from a new discovery. You are not sure who to root for. Do I like this character. Do I not like this character. And even at the end there is still more to come.
I found this book as a free credit. I am so glad I had the opportunity to indulge in the amazing journey as the author slowly peeled back the layers of deceit.
Clare Corbett is an amazing narrator.
I agree with others that say the cover is a bit misleading. I guess that is why you can't judge a book by it's cover.

This is a simple listen. Maybe for a younger genre. As soon as Eden Elliott lands in the small town of Glenkillen in the Scottish Highlands she is thrust into a murder mystery. Without giving to much away how can a stranger in a small town have so much leeway in helping find the culprit.
I rushed through to the ending. Did not keep my attention.

To make things worse, Liz is the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard who is drawn into the investigation. Is it just a missing person or something worse? And what relevance do the events around the shocking Girl F case, so taken up by Knight, have to do with the present? The truth is darker than you could ever have imagined.

This is a steady pace novel. It will keep you guessing. I had to restart the listen because I was not paying attention to the names and got confused. Pay attention to the names and relationships. The author gave great character development.
Relax in the deception and take a guess at the ending.
The title of the book is a bit confusing because it has nothing to do with the main story line. Maybe it does and I just missed it. What do you think?
This might help if you are like me. Remember:
Craig Gillard - DCI = Detective Chief Inspector
Sam Phillips (female) - PSO
Clair (can't remember last name)
Patty Kincade (male)
Elizabeth (Liz) Knight
Martin Knight
Oliver Knight
Chloe Knight
Relax and enjoy.

This novel provided an even pace as we traveled through the "who done it" mystery. The investigation was steady and allowed for great character development. Duncan proved to be an excellent detective and crime solver.
It was a good wholesome cleanse and break from what I have been listening to.
The narrator, Angus King did an wonderful job voicing the characters. Loved his accent.

Take AI + EMP + Human Trafficking + Cannibalism and you get a world run by the devil.
This series is dark. The depiction of the human being is brutal. With his words the author paints a graphic image of pure evil with no sense of mercy. He takes Mr. Musk's AI foundation and builds a killing machine.
By book five I was skipping chapters to get to the end. Even the good guys are murdered in graphic heartbreaking ways.
There is no win.
I gave 5 stars to give the reader the opportunity to see what the series is all about.

!!TAKE THEM DOWN!! DON'T HOLD BACK!!
Reviewed: 03-19-25
Book one will take you on a non-stop action packed adventure that keeps you hooked. The author gives a peek into how some military deal with PDST when coming home. Beware, there are dark thoughts that Ty Stone tackles with when he has down time.
The three book series deals with human trafficking. My heart breaks that this is real and so many children and women suffer at the hand of evil.
The first two books our hero delivers and rescues. The third book feel short for me because my expectations were not met. He finally was given a job that met his character and abilities. I was wanting him to kick butt and take down the top guys and the cartel and keep going while taking down those criminals that run the human trafficking circles. That did not happen.
At the very least give it to us in a book. Let the hero let lose and take as many of those "feel in the blank with your colorful words" down.
The narrator for the first two books were good, but the narrator for the third book was hard to listen to. With all that I did complete the listen for all three books.
