Story
As investigators brought out the bagged remains of several dozen young men from a small Chicago ranch home and paraded them in front of a crowd of TV reporters and spectators, attention quickly turned to the owner of the house. John Gacy was an upstanding citizen, active in local politics and charities, famous for his themed parties and appearances as Pogo the Clown. But in the winter of 1978-79, he became known as one of many so-called “sex murderers” who had begun gaining notoriety in the random brutality of the 1970s.

What we really needed to know about the Gacy murders.

This was an amazingly told and performed book about the victims, their lives, their families, their histories. It added humanity back to them all and now their life will remain outside of their horrific death. It was brilliantly written and performed and any one would get something from this book. I often found myself having to pause and reflect before continuing on. Sometimes for a whole day. So well done and those boys deserved this long ago.

Story
When Andrew stumbles upon Jamie’s house, he’s injured, starved, and has nothing left to lose. A deadly pathogen has killed off most of the world’s population, including everyone both boys have ever loved. And if this new world has taught them anything, it’s to be scared of what other desperate people will do . . . so why does it seem so easy for them to trust each other? After danger breaches their shelter, they flee south in search of civilization. But something isn’t adding up about Andrew’s story, and it could cost them everything.

Great Post Apocalyptic Story without Zombies (Finally!)
Reviewed: 07-15-23
Just like the title aside this is a great post apocalyptic story without being filled with Zombies, Finally. There’s not one zombie in this entire book. It’s tangible, realistic, and relatable. The two protagonists are totally engaging and have a dynamic that makes you both root for them and sit on the edge of your seat. There are great secondary characters that you get to know and some you have to make up the stories about in your mind. I throughly enjoyed this book. I love that it’s just about love and dedication between people. I highly recommend.

Wonderful Ending to a brilliant series.

I love this whole "something like" series. This last book just finalizes it beautifully. Jay Bell just gets writing for peoples hearts. And I have grown so accustomed to hearing Kevin R. Free be the voice of Ben, Tim and all the rest that when I actually read the books, his voice is in my head. If you've enjoyed the series thus far, this book will bring it to a close so nicely for you. Though you'll still long for more.
